It's also YOUNG ADULT vampire fiction so I'm not sure what the hell people were expecting. I'm going to be one of those spoilsports who think that if the books hadn't been very popular with young girls and women then they wouldn't have taken nearly as much shit as they had. The books committed the crime of being genre fiction for women and the manosphere reacted as if they were trespassing on sacred property.

As if women hadn't loved sexy vampires since Dracula.

I say this as a guy who writes vampire fiction himself (Straight Outta Fangton).
Interview with the Vampire or really any of Anne Rice's books.

I am sure there is some part of it as you stated. But objectively, when you view these movies as an outsider you see all of the issues. The sparkly vampire is just a small part of it.

Though I will admit the fallout from it is annoying. Kristen Stewart has been labeled as a wooden actress that shows no emotions. Robert Pattinson also likewise has been labeled as a terrible actor. In the case of Robert, that is just blatantly false. He just can't shake Twilight and he even makes fun of thoss movies.
I got nothing to say here.

I don't know, The Batman REALLY helped people realize just how amazing Pattison is as an actor and Stewart has gotten a lot of love for her other roles over the years. They still get a lot of shit but it's not nearly as bad as it was and TBH I never had much of an issue with their performances. Sure they're all kinda flat but there's not much to work with and you can tell these were just pay check films for them.

I think that helped. Even though there are critics of how he portrayed Bruce Wayne, not Batman. I think Stewart has improved over the years but some of her immediate post-Twilight movies still showed some wooden acting from her. Practice makes perfect I guess.

Taylor Lautner from what I understand is having trouble with his acting career or at least just not enjoying the success of Stewart or Pattinson.

The rest of the cast unless I am missing someone were well established actors and actresses before Twilight. Large cast so I am sure I am forgetting someone who may started their acting career in Twilight.

I think both can be true and not contradict

Twilight was OVER HATED and for the wrong reasons. It really did come off that 'women like this? Fuck it, we hate it, women suck ma dudes'. But Twilight IS a bad film, and a bad romance series, and very harmful. It's just people hated it because 'Heh heh, women like things...'
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

I think it was a popular pastime to hate on Twight to be certain. There have been equally or worse movies made since then that has been forgotten. So there is an element of hating on it because girls/women loved it. Fanatic about it even. Where the men/public in general were about 'how can you love these movies?'

One thing though I have noticed, unlike let's say the Star Wars community that loves or hated the Sequel Trilogy, there is a general consensus that Trilight movies are not that good. Good as in the view of the general public. The fans are aware of the Twilight shortcomings and they wont dispute it. But they still love it or grown out of it.
I got nothing to say here.

Yes, but not just that. The meme I saw went like:
Stephanie Meyer wrote a book that was a remake of Twilight with every character's gender swapped.

So it's now a story about a sullen loser high school boy who gets systematically stalked and pressured into a relationship by a borderline psychotic vampire girl that's constantly interally struggling with her desire to fuck him outweighing her desire to eat him, who then protects him from an even more predatoru vampire girl who simply wants to torture and devour him, then she later gets into a feud with a muscular and athletic Native American werewolf girl that is also in love with him

The funny thing about that is that Dracula in the original novel was not sexy. He was an inhuman monster that had rancid breath.

Well at the start of the book but the more blood he drinks the more handsome and youthful he becomes.

While true, the sexual element was always there too and sexy vampires had been a thing since Carmilla.

Funny thing though is that movie would still appeal to the female side of the audience despite now gender swapped.
