There were signs ahead of time with even the FBI taking noticed from online threats and posts but everyone ignored this guy. Every student interviewed after claims they saw this coming from this guy.

For once...yeah. =/ I agree with you there. I think reasonable gun control could have prevented this, but that's not where the ball was really dropped.
So what's the solution? Do the FBI need to get their shit together and stop trying to break up black rights organizations? Do teachers need to be more responsible when it comes to malicious little creeps?

The problem is we can never trust law enforcement to be able to prevent a crime until it happens and the moment we put all our hopes and safety in them is when we become vulnerable when they screw up.

Really? That's it? "Cops are useless"?
It sounds like there are lots of steps that could have been taken. This is the most preventable mass shooting I've heard about.
What about finally breaking up the white nationalist hate groups that trained this kid and took him under their wing?
For Hecate's sake, this was a single person choosing to shoot lots of other people after bragging about it, not an earthquake or a lightning strike. We don't take this fatalistic attitude to suicide bombers or airplane-hijacking terrorists.

I didn't say cops are useless, but they are not superheroes and are not always about to prevent anything.
And so now this is news. What evidence suggests this kid was trained by "White nationalist hate groups"?
We don't stop suicide bombers by banning materials that alone are harmless but put together, they make a bomb. Might as well start banning pressure cookers. We put armed Air Marshals on planes now

One asshole used a shoe bomb, so now everyone has to take off their shoes when they go into the airport. If somebody even jokes about a bombing anywhere near an airport, say, on social media, just see how long it takes for the sirens to flare and serious action to be taken.
If they can't stop one wheedy, hyper-aggressive adolescent who brags about how he wants to shoot everyone in his school from taking seven lives in a manner of minutes, then what are they good for? This is the very axiom of a preventable tragedy.

So by that analogy, all people entering a school building should have their bags checked and run through metal detectors...which some schools do

Re: Another School Shooting, this time in Florida
But that wasn't the course of action you were suggesting.
I'm pointing out the double standard, how when some white boy shoots up a public place, we do nothing to change the situation and act like it's inevitable when there are so many practical steps we could take.
That's why I have such a hard time debating this subject in a reasonable manner. That's why I find it so frustrating. We treat mass shootings in the USA like they were a natural disaster rather than taking the proactive and compromising approach we do to any other threat. I keep talking with people who act like nothing could have been done to prevent this, when it's clear it could have been prevented.

The solution to either is not more gun control. I'm not treating it like it's a natural disaster but I am not going to say preventing it from happening is as simple as saying "ban all guns"
