Stephen Hawking dies, age 76

Perhaps one of the most notable physicists of our age and notable Star Trek: The Next Generation cameo, Stephen Hawking passed away earlier this morning.

Famed for his contributions to the fields of general relativity and his work on Black Holes which lead to the discovery of what is now known as Hawking radiation. He was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in 1963 where he was given only two years to live, yet he persisted and in doing so he helped expand mankind's understanding of the universe.

Beyond that he was noted by his colleagues for his sense of humour. Having once hosted a party for time travellers to see if anyone turned up.
Thread ends here. Cut along dotted line.

I hope he's beating Einstein and Newton at poker in the afterlife right now.

Well, he certainly beat the odds.
