How is it "well intentional"? If saving the universe was his motivation there were so many different ways that he could've "save the universe" other than killing off half of the population. He literally became God in the sense that he had all 6 stones.
You're going to have to let go of the comics because he didn't become a God in the MCU. As powerful as he was even with all the Stones...had Thor aimed for his head that would've been the end of Thanos. Had Thor made sure he couldn't clench his fist...or snap his fingers...then he would've prevented the annihilation of half the population. Also...if you look at the Gauntlet after Thanos used it's power to wipe out half the population...it's almost completely wrecked...suggesting that employing that kind of power exacted a cost...one Thanos might simply not be able to pay again with the Gauntlet so badly damged...meaning...he could do One major act with all the stones...so if he had one thing he could do...in his mind wiping out half-of all life was the best option.
Plus, within a generation, two, or three people are just going to make his "killing" null when they produced enough people to reach our levels. Especially with our technology of automation taking over a lot of jobs. It's not going to stop the oil digging, etc...
50% of the universes population just went away...what makes you think things are just going to bounce right back? Worse...if Thanos wants to...he can use conventional means (at this point) to ensure the population dosen't get out of control....and in all honesty various star governments might insititue population controls JUST because they don't want to the population to grow so large that Thanos might feel the need to do this again.
If you are saying that the MCU motivation is better than the comic book motivation, of course, people will criticize it. And it will hurt (in the long) the MCU and Marvel, IMO.
Also from Box Office Mojo: FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War delivered a massive $39 million from Thursday evening previews last night. The performance is the fourth largest Thursday night preview ever and the largest for any film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ahead of Captain America: Civil War ($25M), Black Panther ($25.2M) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M).
And most of the reviews I am seeing are flat out praising the way Thanos was handled in film...so I am not seeing any long term damage being done to the franchise by this film....the opposite in all honesty.
