North and South Korea conference

Okay, that was unexpected.

Like, I remember a Young Justice episode where Lex Luthor negotiated reunification and I find that more plausible than it happening in real life.

By which I mean Lex Luthor being real and negotiating it in our world.

Mind you, it makes a bit more sense when you hear about how NK's nuclear facility collapsed with a mountain burying it and its personnel.

Yeah, the nuclear program is dead and buried so let's try something else! There may be some perverse pleasure in doing it under Trump, but I doubt he was the deciding factor. Kind of like Bush Sr. seeing the collapse of the Soviet Union, he's just there at the time more than anything.

Well...this is...hopeful? Good?

Not really sure if I trust positive news these days.

Compared to recent events it is a hopeful note, but strictly speaking it's not a peace treaty, it's a promise to meet and talk about one. At least it's an inter-Korean summit like they used to have.

Well, I never expected the Berlin Wall to come down in my lifetime. I don't know how much to hope, but this is the best sign I've seen out of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for a long time.

The South Korean President sure thinks Trump deserves some credit.

Anyone who's seen 45 knows he can be flattered more easily than the pretentious fuck in your Creative Writing course.

As a proudly pretentious fuck, I take personal exception to that remark.

A few remarkable things happened this time around, that never have happened before (e.g. Kim actually and physically going to South Korea, even the hubub about crossing the border was fairly significant, in a symbolic manner), so one should be hopeful that peace can break out on the Korean Peninsula in our lifetimes. Reunification however, is a long shot off, as both sides do not really want it to happen, the South because of the economic impact and the North because of dictators wanting to stay being dictators. A relaxed political atmosphere with easy border-crossing would work for both in a really welcome way though, so that is certainly going to happen. The South gets a cheap workforce and the North gets money and goods.
