I laughed. I rolled my eyes. I thought once in a while, as I do when I've exhausted all other alternatives.

It was news to me that the casting was race- and gender-blind, and kudos to them. It was funny seeing someone insulted because the gay couple was treated the same way as a straight couple, or that Burnham was being treated like any other central space hero (except for not getting a break ever).

There is plenty I disagree with, even in the old Trek that I've, you know, actually seen, but it is curious that someone far to the left of where I think STD aimed still shares some concerns I (someone well to the right of STD's aim) have. Though the author and I would disagree on almost everything, probably up to and including the cheesecake question (not 7 of 9, but cake or pie) we actually have a lot of common ground on what makes good Star Trek.
