The duels go from ok to great for the most part but the rest of the action probably is not the best shot thing in the world even compared to swashbucklers from the 50s and the 40s.Winter wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 8:30 amA LOT! I own Die Hard, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, the original Spider-Man trilogy (which tbh I like but I find them to be just as flawed as the Prequels), Deadpool, The X-Men films, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Wonder Woman, let's save time and just say that I've seen most of the Superhero movies released over the last two decades, The Princess Bride, (yes that is a action movie as well as a romance), The Last Naruto Movie and Avatar: The Legend of Aang/Korra.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 7:58 am
Better than the Raid 2 and John Wick?
The battle scenes of something like Seediq Bale are way better than whatever happens in Geonosis or any korean historical blockbuster.
I do not mean to be rude for real, but how many action and action/adventure movies have you watched?
Also, I didn't say that the action in AotC was better then Raid 2 or John Wick. I'm sure I didn't imply that. All I said was I really liked the action and that it was fun. For me, as long as its' cool to look at, I can follow what's happening and it goes as a fast enough pace (not to fast not to slow) I'm entertained. Things like Batman Begins or Taken 3, where it cuts around so fast that I can't see what's happening, then I will not only be bored but annoyed as this requires no imagination or thought. Just get the camera in really close and shack it around while cutting every 1 millisecond and you have your action scene.
I can get why many didn't enjoy the action in the Prequels but as someone who grew up on watching old swashbucklers where the fighting was just as choreographed as the lightsaber duels in the Prequels, didn't bug me and I rather enjoyed. But that's just me.

So Disney it seems already has their assigned shills printing spin pieces to hide the fact that they really didn't listen to their fans. Scott Mendelson, a freelance writer for Forbes is blaming Solo's failure on its lead being a white male.

It seems the force isn't the only thing that has a strong influence on the weak minded.
And on Twitter, in less than a week Jon Kasdan has changed his tune, insulting and flame baiting critics who had beef with Lando being retconned as a pansexual to inviting anyone who had issues with Solo or Star Wars to write into Disney encouraging them that Disney will listen.
Yeah, it seems that being head writer on the potentially biggest bomb of the summer after shooting your mouth off to fans who announced an intention to boycott will change anyone's attitude. The tosser didn't even have the decency to apologize for prior comments and trolling while playing damage control.
You know, I read through some gawd awful stuff in the EU, like an alien crime lord that sweats date rape odor, and has a female android bodyguard/assassin that is designed to be as sexually fully functioning as Data and willing to demonstrate upon his command, but even that level of stupid has never made me this angry. Disney, stop Spin Doctoring. You screwed up. own up. apologize. Listen to your fans rather than alienating them.

Star Wars fans can't agree on anything. Doing anything at all is always going to alienate some portion of the fanbase no matter what.

Mendelson seems like a man working his brain through contortions trying to make reality match his world-view. That is not a good use for a brain. If he's getting a kickback from all the YouTube channels making fun of him, he's being very intelligent indeed. Otherwise...MyUserName wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 6:46 pm Scott Mendelson, a freelance writer for Forbes is blaming Solo's failure on its lead being a white male.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
For me, nothing really stood out- not even in a visual sense stood out (at least Rogue One has a few really good shots in it to make the film look pretty). I mean the character L337, I knew was a joke but I would say that it went on too long for the joke's own good (and for the character as well). Not only that but I noticed that other people in the theater were just as bored as me until the film went to Kessel.Winter wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 2:44 amThat does seem to be the general opinion from anyone who has actually seen the film that being that the film was okay. Nothing in it to get worked up unless you're on one of the two extreme sides and even then no one seems to be getting that worked up about this film. I didn't see it myself, I knew about the Solo name thing from a friend who did go to see it and I went online to see what was said exactly and I still consider that to be the dumbest moment in Star Wars history but aside from that my friend said that the movie was just okay. Nothing to get worked up over but nothing to really write home about.
That being said, the only thing that surprised me and confused me was seeing that one cameo at the end and I had to do some digging and I am still confused on when in the SW timeline this movie was supposed to take place at.

Well, there's an Empire, so it's definitely post-RotS and pre-ANH. I'm guessing halfway in between.

Have they, now? It was all a dream!

i don't want a fake apology fcrom Kasdan. I want him gone from the franchise. I don't care how much he got paid.MyUserName wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 6:46 pm So Disney it seems already has their assigned shills printing spin pieces to hide the fact that they really didn't listen to their fans. Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
There really wasn't anything that far-reaching in that Forbes article assuming you actually bother reading it IMO. The headline is clickbait but that's not a surprise. Most of the article is him pondering on the effects of how having minorities star in a movie might cause it to draw in audiences because it then becomes an "event" movie. He also makes it clear that he doesn't think it's the only factor to a film's success, but rather he wants to dispel the myth that minorities are somehow box office poison, an argument that has been trotted out by right wingers constantly.
Also, I ended up seeing the movie anyway. I was expecting middle-of-the-road and that's more or less what I got. I gotta say I was bored through quite a bit of it though, but that might've been because of how awful it was to look at. While I already knew there were some lighting issues from some of the other reviews I have watched/read, I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it was. I felt like I had to squint to see anything through the movie and it almost single-handedly ruined the entire experience for me. I'm not the type that's super sensitive to that sort of thing- I don't think I've ever had to list lighting as my biggest gripe with a film.
