Kennedy to retire.

You know, it's funny, because not that long ago I was accused of being some racist right-wing Nazi.

SF Debris has been attacked from both left and right, so I'm sure he can relate to this.

I did. It was only one line long. Let's look at some context, shall we?

I am disagreeing with your post. To the point where I question whether you have actually read Dworkin or Solanas at all. Hillary's campaign had MANY flaws, but it did not remotely resemble a left-wing YouTuber. Either that, or you and I have RADICALLY different definitions of what a left-wing YouTuber looks like. Hillary's campaign was a very boiler-plate centrist campaign. She presented no particularly radical ideas on...well, anything really. She couldn't even commit to student loan forgiveness, for Christ's sake. She was the status-quo candidate. She certainly never said anything echoing either Dworkin or Solanas, who really were radicals.Slash Gallagher wrote:Hillary campaing might as well had been done by a left wing youtuber.

What % of the country did she call deplorable? That is not centrism.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 5:09 pmI did. It was only one line long. That's....that it? That's your contention? One comment? A comment that has nothing to do with Dworkin, or Solanas, or even anything particularly left-wing? Pardon me, I don't mean any offense...but...are you American? I ask because you seem to be unaware of the scope and scale of an American Presidential campaign.
A modern American Presidential campaign involves thousands of people, millions of man hours, and billions and billions of dollars stretching out over multiple years. It cannot be encapsulated in a comment, no matter how unfortunate that comment is.
As I have repeatedly stressed, Hillary's campaign had several unfortunate moments...the one you identified was certainly one of them. But the campaign itself was boilerplate centrism. She was essentially running for Obama's third term - she wanted to rock no boats and gore no bulls. Which ultimately proved her undoing...enough of the country wanted to see boats overturned, and Trump promised to do just that.

Re: Kennedy to retire.
I hate the word "status quo" candidate. It was used so thoughtlessly by ignorant radical and fanatically hateful children who just wanted to upend the system with no idea on what to replace it with that they made it sound as if status quo is bad. Because a 70-year-old career politician who has never gotten a thing done in his entire life and makes false promises is the very definition of shaking things up, huh? I wanted to continue Obama's policies, and I remembered the 1990s as a very happy time, so I voted for her based on that viewpoint. I also disagree with the idea that Americans wanted change. If so, it was because the GOP spent eight years telling people Obama wasn't good enough. And Sanders running a hatefully negative campaign after he promised not to also drove a deep wedge between liberals and progressives. And then there's the Russian misinformation campaign. As others have stressed, it would have taken a superhuman effort to beat all that was stacked against her, and as you saw, she obviously didn't. Most Americans tend to be in the center, so she was a perfect candidate to represent our values. It just wasn't good enough.

But the status quo IS bad.
I live in a city. I walk past people who are homeless, not because it's inevitable, but because real estate developers would rather have dozens of empty homes sit and rot than give these people a safe place to live. Last year, an acquaintance of mine died because pharmaceutical companies would rather sell more painkillers than treat the underlying causes of pain.
It's not a bug, it's a feature, and the system with those features needs to be changed.

Re: Kennedy to retire.
Change happens in one of two ways. Either slowly, in which things improve steadily, which is what Clinton offered, or all at once, which is extremely dangerous. That's the herald of revolution, in which numerous people die, or are raped, or are brutalized in other ways. Mass rapes and torture and death. I wanted to keep improving on Obama's policies because I felt that over time, it would lead to a new golden age like the 1990s. Plus she would treat our allies and other nations with respect. Didn't happen. So meh.

I'm pretty sure we could implement universal healthcare or a higher minimum wage without rapes, torture, and death.

If a Republican would have made that deplorable error you would not be downplaying it. Also it was not a hidden camera footage.
Obama was extremly left on social issues. Obama rocked some boats. Romney's tax comments were a huge deal. I think that comment is the perfect symbol for her campaing.
