Watching Voyager Warlord I noticed something

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Watching Voyager Warlord I noticed something

Post by thisithis »

I noticed something when watching Voyager Warlord that it has a lot in a lot in common with DS9 Passenger. With Kess being taken over by a Warlord, even I find it hard why a Warlord that wants immortality would want to keep a girl's body that is a part of a species that only lives for 9 years.

And DS9 The Passenger where Julian Bashir is taken over by a criminal the exactly the same way on Voyager Warlord. Yes, The Passenger came first in 1993 and told a better story, and Voyager Warlord which came out 1996 ad is crap, and add to understand what the heck is going on.

Crap is a good review of this episode.
What always got me was just how cowardly Kes is here. Remember that technically she did not break up with Neelix, Tehran did. And yet every other episode after this one seems to maintain that SHE was the one that broke up with him - with the body theft never being mentioned ever again. This implies that she didn't have the guts to leave the jealous, clingy runt herself and instead lied to him about who it was that gave the break up speech.

SFDebris review for VOY:"Warlord" (Score 5/10)

The episode was tactically average but strategically a bit of a success for the show, in that it was the start of the shakeup Kes needed to be a full and independent character. Sadly, one season wasn't enough time for this to really pay off...

It's also fun how you can basically carbon-date which season of Voyager it is by which holodeck program they all run off to. Did not need the reminder that the otherwise pretty fun Beach House era was a product of Neelix :/

It's good at giving Jennifer Lien a chance to act and at giving Kes some purpose other than being a cue for others, but yeah, it runs right up at the edge of suspension of disbelief and doesn't have the pacing, music, or atmosphere to hide it.

True, these are very similar in their application of killers with immortality devices. "The Passenger" is cops-and-robbers, basically a police procedural with a twist ending. "Warlord" is, well, an episode of Xena.

They are fairly similar overall, but if there is something that sets "Warlord" apart, it's the mindscape scene, where Kes and Tieran are locked in a battle of will, while outside, Tieran's lackeys have this uneasy hold on power. It's a coup within a coup!

On the topic of better living through body snatching, "Turnabout Intruder" might just deserve an "I AM LEGION" award, too!
