A comic/episode/novel about a sniper in Trek...?

Would it feel unTrek for a lot of people? If so, why?

That's a difficult question. I'm guessing that this wouldn't be a story about new life forms and new civilizations. DS9 had episodes about combat and its effect on people. I loved DS9, and it felt like Trek to me, but a lot of Trek fans felt differently.

You mean like Field of Fire?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking for one, or are you writing one?

Asking about. I don't remember that episode.

This would be the way to do it and feel true to the spirit of Trek: examine the human angle of it.

But on the other hand, when you're talking about 700+ hours of television over 50 years, they're not all deep, thematic investigations into the human condition or whatever. Sometimes they're just an entertaining hour of TV action/drama. E.g. I don't think there's anything more to "Starship Mine" than "DIE HARD on the Enterprise" and I'd never hold it up as representative of Star Trek, but it's a decent change-of-pace episode.

How the Hell were Fed losing this War?
Fed invents a rifle that shoots round corners and bans it because Starfleet is NOT military.

First Contact: Picard shoots Borg with Hyoomon style Guns. Fed insists that we use useless Phasers versus Borg because using guns would be military. The shoot round corners rifle is abandoned because it works.

We hates Gene's Vision TM. We hates it forever.
Self sealing stem bolts don't just seal themselves, you know.
