The “At Look at X” Videos

Since Chuck is restoring revised versions of the missing character videos, I’d thought I make this topic so we can discuss them more.

Here’s a list of what’s been released so far (I’ll add to the list when there are new releases):

All of them are an interesting look into the characters based on the various episodes. But the one’s I like the most are Garak because...it’s Garak & Barclay, due to being the relatable flawed human in a supposed “perfect” society. And I agree, Reg and Seven should hook up.

All of them are an interesting look into the characters based on the various episodes. But the one’s I like the most are Garak because...it’s Garak & Barclay, due to being the relatable flawed human in a supposed “perfect” society. And I agree, Reg and Seven should hook up.

I just cannot see Barclay with Seven.

1) He is paranoid about everything. I just cannot see him sleeping soundly next to someone that might freak out and assimilate him at any opportunity. And remember that although we didn't see him, he must have been on the ship during ''Best of Both Worlds'' and he was on the E. during ''First Contact''. This is a guy that has seen the horrors of the Borg first hand. I just picture it now: Barclay at the Ten Forward window gazing forlornly out at those 39 destroyed starships at Wolf 359.

2) Speaking as an introvert myself, if my girlfriend was a blonde stunner with huge boobs and a catsuit, I would be embarrassed as hell at all the attention she was getting because that would also bring attention onto me. I'm not saying this has to apply to Barclay, I just thought that it was worth bringing up that the last thing that most introverts want is to stand out in a crowd. And we see this in Leosa (the Dabo girl that the Ferengi used to pretend to be his girlfriend in ''Inside Man'') because Barclay's description of her imo makes her sound as if she was portraying a sweet and nerdy type of girl.

Yeah I don't see Barclay going with Seven either, for exactly the reasons you state. I used to be an introvert, so what you say makes sense I understand where you're coming from. Between someone who spent much of their time confined and having left that behind wanting to really get out there and experience things, going with someone who is shy and struggles but eventually overcomes that awkwardness with being around people, it's a gap difficult to bridge.

Ironically, I can understand Seven picking Chakotay for a hologram to test out dating, on principle anyway. Chakotay in theory is a competent X.O. who goes toe-to-toe with Janeway who she would ostensibly see as someone competent enough to fulfill the duties of an X.O. which at least in real life a large part of is "to maintain order and discipline of the crew". Again this is all in theory for what he should/would/could be, what probably some the writers wanted/intended him to be. I've been in a place where I've had to discard a large part of my identity, and struggled to fit into the one I put myself into.

That involved changing from being more shy, introverted, and overly worried about what everyone around me was thinking about me, a kind of low self esteem narcissism I guess. Getting with someone who is an introvert full time is extremely taxing, even worse when someone has any kind of neurosis which ultimately ended the relationship in my instance.

In summation, virtual Chakotay is entirely different from *real* Chakotay; and saying they rushed that arc is an understatement; again a case of wanting to cut right to the freeway exit without having travelled any length of the road beforehand.

Ah, I was wondering if my sound drivers were having issues or if I was imagining things. Still, it doesn't hurt the overall episode beyond being a bit of oddity.

I do hope Chuck expands these videos to include non-Trek characters. Like one for Dinobot from "Beast Wars."

The problem is the matter of time and effort. I propose that such a relatively small amount of people would watch that video that he would be better spent making any of a thousand other different things.
