Justice League: Flashpoint

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Superman is allowed to be human in the DCAU alot more. He is clearly bothered by Hamilton's betrayal and is letting his anger get the best of him... its kinda like how the DCAU lets Batman's obsession be the thing that ultimately leaves him a miserable old man till Terry shows up.

While I agree with the spirit of the arc in what its trying to say... Cadmus is just not that well balanced to serve as an effective counterpoint

Cadmus is pretty much portrayed as Amoral to such an extreme that any point they had is ruined by their own gross disregard for human life

The assholes fired a Nuke at an evacuation crisis of Not-Cuba... Just too Hide their mistake which had already been passed off as an alien due to their own fucking incompetence.

To be fair, general Eiling launched that nuke and Waller called him out on it. Eiling was later shown to be so far gone he broke into a lab and used a seventy year old Nazi super soldier formula on himself just to fight the super heroes. And considered civilian lives to be just 'collateral damage'. Waller came off as a well intentioned extremist. And if she calls in a nuclear strike. She will be standing at ground zero with those being sacrificed. So Cadmus can still clutch the moral high ground. But it sure is being eroded. Also as Chuck noted they did not have real black and white morality. The Leauge vs. Cadums were two shades of grey in opposition.

Does anyone know what Chuck's mention of the U.S. accidentally dropping a nuclear bomb on itself is in reference to?

I believe that would be the 1961 Goldsboro B-52 crash or maybe the 1958 Mars Bluff B-47 nuclear weapon loss incident. Though the later one didn't technically involve a nuke, because the bomb didn't have its core. Which is good cause that one actually blew up.

Then there are all the times the US deliberately dropped nukes on itself to test them. ~700 happened in Nevada.

Oh yes, Superman was more human in the DCAU, all right. He was getting knocked into walls, taken out by concrete, and electricity. Really. That's just... sad. For someone who has the biggest rivalry with Goku to the point that even now that Goku's transcended to a cosmic, time-skipping entity and people still think Superman has a shot, I find that hard to believe. The World of Cardboard speech is pure win, don't get me wrong. Just wish it had been in the comics. The DCAU wasn't all that powerful, and I love power and feats porn.

When I look back on this story-line, the lip service it plays to these tough questions is undermined by it still being a Supervillian playing everyone.

There is so much Anime that actually does this stuff better. I was excited when he said he was doing Code Geass, but unfortunately it keeps getting delayed.

He said it in the video. It's a reference to the film "Failsafe". I won't spoil it, but it comes down to making a sacrifice to prevent WWIII

No, we did accidentally drop a nuke on ourselves...more than once. Thanks to fail safes they didn't go off. TrueMetis was right. Still haven't found the one nuke we lost. I think it dropped into the ocean.

1st unrecovered bomb (thankfully without it's core, so it's "just" a dirty bomb)

2nd and 3rd unrecovered bombs (again, luckily, basically only dirty bombs on board)

July 28, 1957 - 4th and 5th bombs went missing, when a C-124 expirienced a loss of power while flying over the Atlantic.

6th bomb missing

September 25, 1959 - 7th missing bomb, as a Martin P5M Marlin crash-landed into Puget Sound and it's anti-submarine nuclear depth-charge (yes, that's a thing) went missing

8th missing bomb; well, technically the US Air Force knows where it is and only purchased and fenced off the area after they had to stop excavating the thermonuclear warhead, due to ground water influx

Technically not a bomb, but missing the reactor of a nuclear submarine is notable regardless.

9th bomb - A Douglas A4E Skyhawk fell off the carrier Ticonderoga, which would be kind of amusing, if it hadn't carried a B43 nuclear bomb at the time. The Navy isn't even sure where it exactly happened, thanks to potential diplomatic kerfuffle as Japan wouldn't be all too happy about a 1MT bomb just a few miles off their coast.

10th and 11th bomb, as well as yet another reactor from a submarine

This list only includes official US bombs lost. Goddess only knows how many more were lost by Russia, China and the usual suspects.

That'll be one to explain to the aliens,

"wait, you lost a bunch of nukes? How?"

"Look it's like your keys, sometimes you just drop them by accident and can't remember where."
