Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractures 3 ribs...

Post by LittleRaven »

Ouch.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office and fractured three ribs. The 85-year-old liberal justice was admitted to a hospital Thursday.

Ginsburg's health has been a matter of intense speculation in recent years. The court's oldest member, Ginsburg has survived multiple bouts with cancer, and in 2014 underwent a procedure to have a stent placed in her right coronary artery.
Here's to hoping she recovers.

Apparently there is a long line of people who have signed up to donate organs to her should she need them, and not on the condition of their deaths either.

Awesome. It's nice to hear of the good work others are doing. I'm sure there's some people celebrating this. Just like some people were celebrating Scalia's death - and sadly, I was one of them.

Scalia was a man who did his damn job. Not like Thomas or Kavanaugh. He was like the inverse of Ginsburg; smart, hard-working, but an arch-conservative strict constructionalist instead of a devoted subscriber of the living-document theory. I hated the man but his motivations were always good.

Anyway, here's hoping RBG recovers. She's the best damn Justice left on the court.

This is a totally fair criticism of Thomas...but Kavanaugh? I mean, the man hasn't even been on the court for a month! He hasn't written a single decision yet.

I wish I had your ESP powers. I know absolutely nothing about what kind of justice Kavanaugh is going to be.

Kavanaugh made it BLATANTLY clear at the confirmation and Ford hearings that he has no desire to be anything but a partisan hack. He's there for one purpose; to be Trump's loyal man. His entire pitch was aimed squarely at Donald J. Trump.

At least Gorsuch seems to be putting in the work and giving a damn about his actual job.

That's....not what he said at all. I realize that's what you heard, but that's not what he said.

He claims that he's going to just keep doing what he's been doing for the last 12 years, which is to interpret the law as written to the maximum extent possible. But of course that's what he claims...that's what they ALL claim, more or less. There's practically a script for SC nominees these days, and ALL of them follow it, with slight modifications depending on which party they belong to. And then they get confirmed and start doing whatever the hell they want. There's simply no way to know how a justice will perform until we actually get to start reading rulings and observing them in the big chair.

Now we have decades of Thomas observations which back up your assertion perfectly - the man has never demonstrated (to me, at least) any sign that he actually belongs on that court. And yes, maybe Kavanaugh will do the same...but it seems like we should at least wait until he's written a few rulings before we write him off as a hack.

That life appointment really cuts strings once they are in place.
