Yup. The great polarization continues. A few states are turning more purple - most interestingly Texas. But most states are merely turning deeper shades of blue or red.

That's because Texas is flush with left-leaning constituents that are only kept from choosing a government that represents them by elaborate gerrymandering and suppression.

It's more because Texas is slowly urbanizing. Texas cities are growing...fast. And even though there's a LOT of rural Texas, the sheer size of its cities is beginning to show. Contrast with Midwestern states whose big cities are dying....as the cities fade, the Republican party becomes dominant.

My state almost went red in 2016, and that's an election I did vote in.

This was...not great...for Democrats.

Ok, I dunno who this LittleRaven guy is, but he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

A lot has happened since last week. A lot of races that looked conclusive turned around when mail in ballots were counted. Georgia, Arizona, and Florida all have Senate races that remain too close to call, although at this point, I think the Democrats will take Arizona and the Republicans will take Georgia. Florida is a right mess, as usual, and I have no idea how that one will shake out. And the House gains turned out to be more impressive than we first thought...it now looks like Democrats picked up almost 40 seats, giving them a firm majority in spite of a LOT of gerrymandered states.

So it's time to revise the opinion of the night. Just taking Arizona shifts this into 'very good' for the Democrats. If by some chance they end up with a win in Florida, it shifts to 'pretty great.' The Republican party is bleeding out of it's suburban support, and that will mean very, VERY bad things for them going forward unless they can find a new power base.

Great. Now I just hope some dumb idiot man doesn't sabotage us by choosing a female Vice-President in 2020. That's not shattering the glass ceiling. That's sneaking in through the window.

That ceilling was shattered already.

It's not shattered till a woman wins the presidential election, legitimately chosen by the masses, and is sworn in to actually govern the country.

I just hope that its person that has the best interest for this country regardless of gender. Just because your a Woman does not mean you can't be a racist

Absolutely true. I want the best qualified person, but I want the best qualified woman in this case. I just feel weary of the stranglehold men have on the White House.
