Headscratchers for the Scott Pilgrim comics

#1) near the end of the last book, it's revealed that the big bad, Gideon, was keeping six of his ex-girlfriends in cryogenic stasis and was planning to do likewise to Ramona once he caught her in his trap. First, where in the hell did he get cryo stasis technology? Second, did none of them have family or friends who might, oh I don't know, notice they're missing and file a police report? I can't claim to be a professional investigator by any stretch, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take long for a police detective or two to notice that several missing young women all have the same ex-boyfriend in common and, at the very least, have Gideon brought to the station to answer some questions.
