I doubt half of the voters all feared immigration. He's business-centric and vibed with anybody who thinks that the government and its two party system are contemptibly incompetent.

The nation state is the best way to organize a country. A government that has more loyalty and or prioritizes other nations or people above the ones they govern is not just bad but is out right abusive.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:13 pm It also could just be that he really genuinely does believe in stopping immigration.

None of which justifies going after refugees the way he has. Not to mention illegally violating asylum laws.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:33 pmThe nation state is the best way to organize a country. But I get the impression we don't agree on a lot of things.

Donald Trump has been in the public eye for damn near 50 years. We've watching him grow from a budding New York socialite to appearances in professional wrestling, casinos, pageants, all while attaching his brand to everything from steaks to buildings with a fervor that borders on obsession.
And in all that time, I've never seen any evidence that Trump holds any principles outside of relentless self-promotion. But it's not like I know the man personally, so...maybe?

Anyone who has studied the way he handles his businesses and their demographics will note that he's always been incredibly racist and anti-immigrant.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:47 pmDonald Trump has been in the public eye for damn near 50 years. I feel this is a bit of a red herring to both vindicate Trump and admonish Democrats.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 11:33 pmThe nation state is the best way to organize a country. Re: Trump moves to deport Vietnam war refugees
I think this story is being way overblown. The implication being set up is that Trump wants to deport all pre-1995 Vietnam refugees. Reading the story, what is happening is that Trump wants violent criminals from Vietnam to be returned to Vietnam. Initially, he read the agreement as allowing that. Now that Vietnam is insisting that they do not have to accept criminals, Trump is allowing the previous agreement to expire.
While the article states:
In fact, this may just be a negotiating ploy to get the agreement amended so that we can deport violent criminals.
While the article states:
implying that Trump wants to deport all pre-1995 arrivals from Vietnam, it does not actually go into what the status of all of those arrivals is vis-a-vis standard immigration law. I would suspect that a large number of them have or will be able to get official legal status, and that he really simply wants to be able to deport those who commit deportable offenses. Now no pre-1995 arrivals are exempt from the 2008 agreement’s protection. That means all such people are subject to standard immigration law, rendering them eligible for deportation.
In fact, this may just be a negotiating ploy to get the agreement amended so that we can deport violent criminals.

Re: Trump moves to deport Vietnam war refugees
Trump's definition of criminal has been very flexible.
Sending people back who have served their time, for example.

Committing certain crimes is grounds for deportation after your sentence is complete. Serving your sentence does not erase a crime from your record.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 2:28 am Trump's definition of criminal has been very flexible.
