And Discovery, being a poorly written show, decides that it simply must break that cycle in the most awkward way possible.
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you there.

While, like most long-time Star Trek fans, I think Discovery is a dumpster fire, I actually liked Tilly dropping the f-bomb. It was so out of left field (because it's Star Trek), but it also seemed like such a natural thing to say given the circumstances.

It's a word that a lot of people overuse, IMHO, thinking that it makes their writing all edgie and adult, when really it should be saved for the occasions when it can have the most dramatic impact. Think back to Chuck's review of The Thing, and how perfectly placed the "you've got to be f-ing kidding me!" line was. That's a perfect example of when to drop the f-bomb.

Real people don't go around sounding like they've just stepped out of a Quentin Tarantino movie.

But with that said, now that Tarantino's set to make an R-rated Star Trek movie...

Look at what Gene dressed the majority of the female actresses in and tell me that if he could have gotten away with bare breasts that he wouldn't have. This is also supposedly the man that wanted the Ferengi to have permanently erect penises. Fact is that Star Trek has always been incredibly juvenile when it comes to sex - STD is just the natural extension.
If one day Star Trek goes full Game of Thrones I legitimately would not be surprised. Again, they sure as heck would have done so to T'Pol if they could.

How is the Ferengi with the perma ererct penises was supposed to work in the story?

Do they have micropenises? Is it supposed to be a running joke that it always gets in the way?

I think they were meant to be there for no other reason than to just look at - kind of like Troi's cleavage but with an erect penis instead. I guess it was also meant to be a commentary on the fact that they love capitalism so much that it gives them the horn? It is all very odd.

Slash, why would you think that porn and erotica are responsible with the change in Star Trek in the first place? Why do you associate those two things?

Because how widespread it is probably informs how it's portrayed.

Aslo how it's viewed and how the press writes about it. i mean we had bone breaking Klingon sex that was portrayed as cool and not so much anymore.

I think it was just GR's sex freak coming out is all.

Trek has always had an outlet for sex more than Star Wars, that's for sure. This is a strange topic, and I don't really know where to begin.
