I wouldn’t say lying so much as “not show. Unambiguously in any film”. No mistake I agree the overtly female droid proves nothing (now! If L3 had a Dalek chassis tgat’d Be another thing), but neither does it disprove anything. And certainly Lando carries himself as a man who considers anyone he meets for sexual adventures.
But ‘can be true’ isn’t ‘proven true’.

What i’m Saying is get me a MMF pairing with Lando dammit.

It's weird how representation in media is valued so distinctively almost in lieu of diversity, but it can be not very telling of overall real progress in inclusion.

Interesting, the general view here seems to be mostly negative with a few positive but over on Twitter thanks to a Poll I posted that Linkara was nice enough to RT, there seems to be more positive views on it. Now I know many have compared Last's mixed reception to that of The Empire Strikes Back with many saying that given time Last will also be seen as a classic but I'm not sure on that for 3 a couple of reasons.

First off, from what I've been able to gather most of the negative or mixed reviews of Empire came from the critics while the fans seemed to overall enjoy it. Not as much as the first film but for the most part it looks like fans liked it while critics were the ones who disliked it. This seems more like what happened with Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2, both of which, as Chuck himself covered in DA2's review, Critics seemed to overall enjoy the games while fans feelings were more mixed to negative.

ME3 and DA2 were released in 2012 and 2011 respectfully and in that time BOTH games have remained in the Mixed territory with no real signs of ever getting out which was not helped with the former getting Mass Effect: Andromeda as a follow up.

DA2 got off a little better as it got Dragon Age: Inquisition which has been well received and managed to fix a number of issues with DA2 by having some honestly good pay-offs to that game's plot threads and sequel hooks.

However, even with a game that I honestly think is great DA2 is still not seen as a classic due to it's issues. Bugs aside the game still treats Hawke as a non entity through out most of the story, Anders is still insufferable, everyone in Kirkwall is still a twat and the games story structure is still clunky.

These are legitimate criticisms that cannot be over looked by most gamers and while TLJ is a film and not a game it's own issues are just as annoying for a lot of fans. The whole casino planet is a waste of time and offers nothing new to the series, (which is not helped by making everyone on said planet a twat so it lacks any sort of nuanced). Rey's character arc is treated as less important then the conflict between Luke and Kylo Ren and the plot relies to much on characters holding the idiot ball for the plot to work.

These are the biggest issues with the film and they are always going to be part of it much like how Anders will always destroy the Chantry at the end of DA2. Episode 9 MIGHT help matters by being good but in the end I don't think TLJ is going to Vindicated by History but will remain the love it or hate it entry in the series.

When the passion and vitriol dies down, fans can learn to appreciate the good things about a previously despised work. It seems to me like most Star Wars fans actually enjoy the prequels these days, to some extent anyway; although memes, EU material, and nostalgia probably contribute to that. After some time passing and the release of the Citadel DLC and extended cut, people became a little more accepting of ME3. At the same time, it's not as if the prequels suddenly have a reputation as great movies equaling the OT. ME3 still has far more detractors than ME1 or ME2.

It's not unusual for the passage of time to improve a work's reputation, but that doesn't mean its reputation will do a 180. The prequels and ME3 will never be seen as the height of their respective franchises. "Future classics" tend not to be despised movies so much as movies that were simply underappreciated/flew under the radar. To me, a future classic is a movie like Blade Runner 2049. Somewhat ignored, some people have mild problems with it, but it's an obviously well-made film with some storytelling depth and admirers who will willingly defend it for years to come.

So this idea that The Last Jedi will go on to be acknowledged as a classic comes across like wishful thinking. If anything it feels like reaction has become more uniformly negative over the past year, and I personally just don't see the qualities that will make it stand out as a great film for years to come. Its pivotal place in the franchise and potential effect on the rest of the franchise also ensures that it will be a hated film for years unless JJ Abrams pulls off a miracle and somehow ties it all together in a satisfying way.
