Well they can't keep thinking he's dead if he isn't dead, can they? Only choice was to kill him so they can keep thinking he's dead. Chakotay: "Excuse me?"
Janeway: "Oh, I mixed you up with Carey. Of course, you don't have any. My bad! Didn't I have Neelix make a dish out of Carey's?"
Chakotay: "I don't understand."
Janeway: "I know you never do."
Chakotay: "No, I mean Carey. I'm pretty sure he's alive."
Janeway: "WAHHT?"
Chakotay: "You told me to assign him to an empty cargo bay that he has to stare at for 8 hours a shift. He's been doing that for six seasons now."
Janeway: "OH WONDERFUL!"
Chakotay: "You want to promote him?"
Janeway: "No! I can finally make that dish."
