Great review, as always. The only problem I have is the infrequent airing (six months!). I have watched this series several times over and it's one of my favorite anime. I won't give any spoilers, but it shortly becomes dramatic, becoming quite a tearjerker towards the end (especially episode 42). I highly recommend it.

I no longer consider anime in anyway a break from the norm on this site.

If you like emotional episodes, this show will have them in spades, after the halfway mark. Actually...the Madoka arc starting with episode 24 is emotional. Not so tear-inducing, but quite dramatic. Episode 38 will actually have you feeling sorry for Grandma. 
Episodes 42 and 52 are the peaks in terms of needing something to wipe your tears away. Clannad is actually more tear-inducing. It edged out Full Moon in my favorites list. Too bad it has insufficient science fiction/fantasy content for this site. I highly recommend that one, too.

I think that Madoka may be my favorite character (after Jonathan, of course). She becomes somewhat of a sympathetic character about episode 32. You begin to feel sorry for her.
