It doesn't matter if she "bows out gracefully". If she gives a voice to the progressive wing of the DNC but the establishment makes it clear they don't like her and she won't win. Bernie 2.0 will happen.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:22 pm Warren would never 'split the vote.' She's left, but she's a loyal Democrat. She wouldn't challenge Hillary in 2016 (possibly to our detriment) and if she loses the primary in 2020, she'll bow out with grace.
She won't pull a Bernie.

If THAT were true no Democrat would win ever, because that scenario happens all the time. There's always a 'progressive champion.' In 2008, it was Kucinich. In 2004 it was Howard Dean. In '92 it was Jerry Brown, and so on and so on. They lose, but go on to campaign for the winner and everything proceeds as normal.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 7:29 pmIt doesn't matter if she "bows out gracefully". Bernie wasn't normal. He wasn't a Democrat until just before the primary, and promptly left the party as soon as he lost it. He has 0 interest in helping Democrats because he isn't one, and it showed on the campaign trail.
Bernie may well try the same trick in 2020, but Warren absolutely will not.

The progressive wing has never been more powerful than it is now. It wants to take over. Bernie represents the schism he did not cause the schism.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:03 pmIf THAT were true no Democrat would win ever, because that scenario happens all the time. Exactly. Sanders was only in it for himself and had the express purpose of wanting to hurt and sabotage Democrats. He also just wanted to steal money from campaign contributions, and dear lord, he succeeded with his three homes.

Re: The great 2020 election thread....
Hell, don't you remember 2016 at all? Lots of Berniecrats were getting furious that Warren wasn't endorsing Sanders during a critical primary, even though her support wouldn't have helped him one bit. She's also called out superdelegates, even though they were a firewall built to prevent someone like Sanders from hijacking a party he does not belong to. And lo and behold, he succeeded in getting his fanatical base to turn on them, as they've now ensured some of the superdelegates are bound to their state's election results. I don't like that. They need to be a buffer to ensure an outsider doesn't come in and destroy the party from within. Sanders tried and probably succeeded in that, given the division he's caused and how toxic he is to the center and center left and progressive wings. I know Warren has her flaws, like speaking out against superdelegates like he has, but goddamn it, the first woman President isn't going to be a goddamned saint. If you expect perfection in a candidate, you're going to be fucking disappointed.

God, this election is going to be pure trash... my mom is furious Harris is apparently "getting funding from Wall Street." It's what the fucking media and purity saints did in 2016. Nothing is ever good enough for them, and they crucify anyone who does not fit into their narrow worldview. No woman stands a chance of winning this year. It's going to be a man, mark my words. But the FUCKING BASTARD better dare not choose a female Vice-President, or I swear, I will vote for the other side in protest...

Talk about damning by faint praise.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Wed Jan 09, 2019 8:27 pmThe progressive wing has never been more powerful than it is now.
The progressive wing has been blown out of the water in almost every fight it's picked. Almost all of Sander's 'special candidates' went down in flames. Hillary schooling him in California. They may want to 'take over' but they haven't demonstrated any ability to do so.
Maybe 2020 will be different. But there's no sign of a 'takeover' right now.

Yeah. Those in the middle like me remain suspicious and leery and still resentful towards him and his motives. And their less than honorable tactics.

I don't get why that's such a deal-breaker. I DON'T.
