Neelix causes another government shutdown because he wants a bigger border wall

Millions of hard working people not being able to put food on their table because they are not getting paid is an absurd situation to find in a 1st world country (at least that is how it is being reported here). Is there any emergency money, let off from rent or back pay for these people? How did such a system even come about without checks and balances to ensure that a compromise is reached before it reaches this level?
And specifics of this shut down aside, I feel as if this is a system reliant on both sides thinking more of the proletariat than measuring their own dicks which seems like a rather hopeful notion.
Well, one problem is that sometimes people in charge put things in place with a misguided assumption that those who will follow them will wield their power with grace and dignity. It took us 150 years to put term limits on the presidency because up until the 1930's most presidents voluntarily stepped down after 2 terms (the few who didn't lost in part because it was considered audacious that they were ignoring the precedent set by our first president). After Franklin Roosevelt sought and won a 3rd and 4th term it was decided not to allow this again and the Constitution was amended to prohibit this in the future.

As far as pay, yes, many people are temporarily unemployed and many more are working without pay (our airport security being a great example). Those working will get their back pay when all is said and done, others may get something depending on the whims of those in charge. Previously when this type of impasse was reached it was usually met with agreements made to keep pay going to government employees who would be required to continue working. The current president has chosen not to pursue this route in an attempt to pressure the opposition in to capitulating. He believes that none of the affected employees voted for him so he is actually getting pleasure from withholding their paychecks ("enjoy the ride" I believe was his direct quote). Rather ironic that he is attempting to get funding for a wall he claims will make the country more secure by refusing to pay airport security employees who also exist to make the country more secure.

This over a wall that it was promised would be funded by Mexico, not the US taxpayer. Maybe, like the 22nd Amendment setting presidential term limits, we will get something in the future that will limit the ability of the government to be shut down. Maybe it will prevent our leaders from sitting around the fireplace with their families during Christmas while their employees wonder if they will make their rent payments due to a stupid pissing match. Or maybe things will get worse. Guess we get to find out...

Isn't it weird how the president is blaming democrats for the shut-down that he caused?

Ah yes, if we didn't call people racist then Trump never would have gotten elected, so things he does are our fault instead of his own fault. Gotcha.

Another straw man, Fuzzy.

Also, aren't congress and the president both responsible?

Because it's a big dramatic way to show that the Trump administration is over that has basically no backlash because it removes an eye sore, and the wall is underwater in support even among republicans.

Yes, and at the start of the Shutdown the republican party had complete control of congress and the Democrats didn't even filibuster.
