Another thing about the two-party system is that the constitution was drafted to be weary of entrenched federalism and didn't really provide a construct for more colorable parties. All we really started with was people that were more or less federalist and it turned into gang fare. Pretty much revolving around that up to this day. I don't think left/right socioeconomic frameworks were really even a thing up until FDR, in which the new deal proved to be the champion; Lincoln having taken the title before.
edit: Just from that accounting of pivotal figureheads, it's the more federalist leaders that history remembers. Ironically though the anti-federalists of today have been known to point to Lincoln as their crowning achievement due to association through the Republican party.

And what we have right now is 4 sheep and 3 wolves arguing about about what's for dinner where each wolf has a vote and a half.Admiral X wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:40 pmI'm all about the checks and balances. People like you don't seem to understand that a pure democracy isn't exactly a utopia either, or even that the US isn't actually a democracy but a republic. Pure democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
We already have problems as it is with the "first past the post" system, which has left us with only two parties dominating this system.

If you think the less populated more rural states are the wolves in that metaphor, then you are being willfully ignorant.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:28 pmAnd what we have right now is 4 sheep and 3 wolves arguing about about what's for dinner where each wolf has a vote and a half.Admiral X wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:40 pmI'm all about the checks and balances. Might help to stipulate structuring of such an analogy.

I mean technically it's more like 1 wolf and 6 sheep with the two proportionally most powerful sheep convinced that if they give the wolf everything it wants they might get to be wolves someday.Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:16 pmIf you think the less populated more rural states are the wolves in that metaphor, then you are being willfully ignorant.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:28 pmAnd what we have right now is 4 sheep and 3 wolves arguing about about what's for dinner where each wolf has a vote and a half.Admiral X wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:40 pmI'm all about the checks and balances. You know that people often joke about the US party system being a system where two right wings of the same party are up for election? Given the US election system, both parties are effectively trying to attract the exact same people. Those two parties are just as good as one. It's shades of beige.

I just want more freedom, but for some reason, both of the big parties seem to hate freedom. :'(

Can I get a brief rundown of the left-wing provisions in Germany (if that's where you're from) that contrast to the US?Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 5:14 amYou know that people often joke about the US party system being a system where two right wings of the same party are up for election? American civilization is incredibly far from collapse. It still works. Why do you think it does not?Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:55 pmRome worked well for an incredibly long time, that didn't stop it from collapsing. Right now we're in a situation where all gentleman's agreements that made Democracy Alpha version workable have been systematically destroyed by the republican party.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 12:52 pmIt worked incredibly well for an incredibly long time. So the tools are there, but we aren't allowed to use them because one party disproportionately benefits from an anti-democratic system? Minority rule combined with extreme polarization and a party built around jamming the system totally doesn't sound like a recipe for a systemic collapse.
And an attitude that stops just short of saying, "you don't deserve democracy" will definitely help with that. Especially in the defense of a body that demonstrably failed to do the one thing it was meant to do and may have allowed an actual traitor to become president.
You mean the Democrats were not such dumbasses that they could have not lost the popular vote?
Mr. Pussy graber is just as responsive to the public as W and Obama was, at least...
On the traitor thing, he was elected by US citizens, dealt with a US media and his power base is located in the United States. Whatever Russia is pushing is popular with the a segment of US citizens.
Time to moderrnize, this is not the 1860's, information sprerads more than quick enough to make any agenda that is truly unpopular with the American public unworkable for any foreign actor.
Pretty much, I mean they've only managed to lose the popular vote once in the last 30 years and that was against a still popular incumbent president.
I'm not sure what that means in this context as Trump has consistently pushed unpopular policy.
I'm not even talking about the general Russian disinformation campaign, I'm talking about his connection to Roger Stone who has been Arrested for his connection to the DNC hack which Russia has stated was a military action of the Russian government if it occurred.
Why should i assume the Republicans gameplan for a different goal the last 30 years they could not have won it more times?
That still has a US based constituency.
I did not play close attention to that. I will after the circus is over.

In Germany, Angela Merkel, the European Pan Nationalist Globalist, is considered center right.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 7:57 amCan I get a brief rundown of the left-wing provisions in Germany (if that's where you're from) that contrast to the US?Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Feb 12, 2019 5:14 amYou know that people often joke about the US party system being a system where two right wings of the same party are up for election?
