Looking to get into Battlestar Galactica?
Anything I should know?

The original or the remake? If the remake, my recommendation would be to just dive in. The general consensus is that the first two seasons (and probably the first story arc of season three) are great. From there, opinions diverge completely as to when exactly the show declined in quality (most would agree it did at some point), how much it declined, and for what reason. You'd be better off just watching it blind and making up your own mind.
There are a few tv/direct-to-dvd movies, webisodes released online, a prequel series of sorts, and some episodes that have extended versions. My advice is to ignore all that for a first watch, with the exception of the opening miniseries and Razor, which should be watched after season three.

Watch the pilot and/or start Season 1....I can't remember if Chuck's reviews rated them as "must see" or 1 - 10. Then report back on your thoughts.
After season 2, you're going to hear a lot of differing opinions on what to watch from there. well at least from me.
how you'll want to proceed will depend on how invested (or not) you get on the various characters/story arcs.

Watch the first 2 seasons of the reboot. The last 2 sucked.

That's a bit harsh. Lots of people, including me, enjoyed the whole ride, though some who were otherwise satisfied with all the seasons had big problems with the finale. While I recognize some problems with the later seasons and the finale, I still enjoy all of them immensely. If only I could say the same for the Caprica prequel series that briefly followed.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 16, 2019 6:31 am Watch the first 2 seasons of the reboot. The last 2 sucked.

It lost me with the season 1 finale thanks to a certain overreaction by a certain Colonial officer. The way that situation was resolved only made it worse.

Yeah, outside the last few minutes of the finale, I'm a huge fan of the whole thing and could write essays defending many (not all) of the choices made. Imo it easily surpasses most other sci-fi and tv in general and is a real work of art from beginning to end, even when I don't think all the plot points were air tight.Koshundheit wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 4:52 amThat's a bit harsh. But this is what I mean by "just watch it yourself." Outside the first, and usually the second, season being seen as first rate, opinions among sci-fi fans differ so wildly that you might as well just make up your own mind.

I found the show much less interesting once Cain and Gina-6 got killed off. New Caprica was a bland Iraq analogy and after that the plots got pretty aimless.
They had a really good dark story with the Pegasus crew, though. They should've kept the show grounded in the mundane instead of going off into the god-is-real lunacy and focused on tough realistic issues.

Everyone is welcome to their opinion. Quite rude though to put spoilers into a thread specifically about getting into the show.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 5:41 pm I found the show much less interesting once [spoilers omitted]

The show is more than ten years old by the time of this writing. What I find rude is people's obsession with "avoiding spoilers" and calling others out for "spoiling", when we are talking about events that happened in the past.
