THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT! DID YOU SEE THAT JOSS?
...ahem.
Actually to be brutally honest, I felt that was the weakest episode of the season so far - although still about a 6/10, so no need to break out the pitchforks. Shazad Latif can sell any good dialogue they give him but sometimes that's just not enough to get me past how I frankly just don't care what's going on with Tyler - wasn't interested in him as Tyler in season one, wasn't interested in the whole Voq thing, kind of got on board a bit with him on Qo'noS, but now we're back to OMG Tyler's Here, What Does This Portend? and my reaction's mainly 'who cares?'. And I'm feeling a bit ooky at how well-known Section 31 is - but at the same time, I've got the impression the writers have done their homework, rather than just picked S31 out of a hat for a cool secret agency like Into Darkness did, so for now I'm assuming something'll happen to drive them underground in a way that justifies nobody (below Admiral rank, anyway) in the DS9 era having heard of them. Don't prove me wrong, Disco, we're getting on well here.
But yeah, delighted for that one thing they did.

That was one shitty episode.
The way to not be shitty to the LGBT fans is to not randomly fridge the gay dude in the first place, not to bring him back for an extended and confusing digression later on.
Otherwise, a chaotic, messy mishmash of an episode with massive structural flaws. Hate the way they're handling S31 as a "cool" elite group.
Michelle Yeoh, Mary Wiseman, Anson Mount, and Doug Jones are so far above the shitty material they're being forced through it's not even funny.
To reiterate: That was one shitty episode.

Re: Sta Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
Discovery was hilariously irresponsible this episode. Even ignoring all the Prime Directive violations, they didn't actually resolve the problem between the Kelpians and Ba'ul. At least when previous Starfleet captains violated the PD, they did it to stop devastating wars or save civilizations from destruction or oppression.
They also didn't resolve anything with the Ba'ul. The Kelpians are still under the heel of the Ba'ul. The Ba'ul still fear the Kelpians and they still have the technology to wipe the Kelpians out. They're so afraid of the post-vaharai Kelpians that they set up a planet wide system of weapons to wipe out the entire Kelpian race just on the off chance that some of them might undergo the change. I don't think they'll throw up their hands and give up just because their obelisks are destroyed. They have starships they can use the bomb the Kelpians into extinction.
I fully expect the Ba'ul to immediately start mobilizing their forces to exterminate the Kelpians. And after this encounter with Discovery, the Ba'ul will probably immediately shoot down every Starfleet vessel that tries to approach their planet.

Not one bit of the Ba'kul/Keplian thing made a lick of sense. This whole episode felt like a tired 5-year-old lecturing me on his play time with He-Man toys.

Because it's not like anybody alive in the TOS days would still be alive today.MissKittyFantastico wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 10:00 am THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT! DID YOU SEE THAT JOSS?

No the Section 31 BS is plot hole after plot hole.

Some, sure, McCoy and so on, but remains to be seen if that's relevant. Assuming there's some plot point coming up about them going dark (i.e. being disbanded, so far as Starfleet in general knows), it's hardly a given that their tale would still be being told a century later, when the only people who know it's not just history are deliberately concealing it.
So that episode was... uneven, I feel like they had goals in mind for the Kaminar situation, but ran into time constraints and a couple of logic holes along the way and just said screw it, forge ahead. Pity. That said, I liked Pike a lot this week, he had a real Kirk-era feel to him - thoughtful, open to alternatives, but ready to make a call off his own bat the moment the situation demanded it. It's a shame the episode wasn't really his, I'd love to see him in a 'Balance of Terror' kind of story where it's all on him for the forty minutes.

At this point I'm just pissed at the bad writing, and whatever is wrong with martin-green that she comes off as such a bad actress.
I mean, Wiseman and Jones are acting their hearts out here with shit material, even the bridge furniture has some energy this season even if I still don't remember their names, Mount's solid every episode even when he has to say really stupid stuff but then Mount managed to make Black Bolt mildly interesting, but Martin-Green comes off as bush league talent at best and I still can't fathom why.
