Rumor is that Smollett was worried about being dropped from the show Empire. Just rumor, though. And it's possible the attack was real but Smollett's description of it was fake.

If he were cheating on his boyfriend, he might not have wanted to admitted that he was attacked by his paramour.

Alternately, if he were in a non-clandestine sexual relationship (e.g. if he and his boyfriend back in L.A. were in an open relationship) with one of the brothers, then maybe he was covering for his lover. People cover for abusive lovers all the time.

He's reportedly shocked that these two were his attackers. He's also shocked and hurt that people don't believe him.

I've heard they were found by numbers he called and then left off the redacted phone call list he gave the police, but found on the list they subpoenaed from the cell provider. If so, if he tried to hide calling his attackers, I think it's pretty telling.

But he could be innocent. Maybe they were working for people trying to stop that Nigerian prince from sending out the money he promised. Poor Jussie was just a warning that even celebrities aren't safe from their clutches.

But, on the whole, I think I know who's getting the 2019 Golden Rasberry award for worst actor.
