Yeah, who are they kidding? This is not the Trek I grew up or the DS9 I fell in love with in 2009.

In fact, I have to wonder sometimes, who is it that loves STD? People that weren't necessarily fans of TNG or DS9 or any of the movies? Because how can you look at the pinnacle of those successes, truly among the franchise's finest, not just for the Trek series, but of sci-fi television and even fiction itself, and... compare that to... what it's become? How is that even possible? It seems like comparing a zombie to a knight in shining armor. The two just don't gel. At all.

My random guess is that less than 250,000 watch STDisco within 7 days on CBS All-Access. Compare that to the 2 to 3 million who watched the last season of Enterprise. (Obviously apples to oranges comparison given streaming versus on-air, etc. but still)

Of course no one knows as the real numbers aren't public info...but we would've heard if viewership > 1 million per week.

Didn't nine million come to watch the first season of STD?

If I remember correctly that was only episode 1 on over-the-air CBS. And the pilot aired after a playoff game....NFL maybe?

I hope it's not near ten million. This show does not deserve to have ratings anywhere near as good as TNG. Then again, I'm convinced most new STD fans are not fans of the original TOS and TNG and DS9.

for background info, there's this podcast...from midnight's edge and Robert Burnett, a TNG alum, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwYFy7nqF4U

and (from wiki) 27 million people watch TNG's 1987 debut and 30 million watched the 1994 finale. Those numbers would be crazy today, especially today there are an extra 50+ million Americans milling about.

Obviously again apples to oranges given streaming, cable, etc...but still.

They use the word "prime" to confused and reel in old fans of the old Trek, not to determine a continued continuity. Please have the sense to not use "Prime Universe/Timeline" in a way, that refers to the continuity which goes from Enterprise to Voyager.
Memory Alpha considers Prime Universe original Trek.

Memory Alpha is as authoritative as any of us here. Just saying.

(unless there is video/written citation of Kurtzman or post-termination Fuller saying that the 2 seasons of Discovery are meant to be in the same fictional universe as 1966 - 2005 Trek.) I believe there is no such quote....the closest is this semantics about "Prime Universe"

Yeah, Memory Alpha is run by guys like us, there is nothing special about it really. They just have a bigger platform. I prefer Ex Astris Scientia myself.

FWiW, in math and science, x' (pronounced "x prime") would mean something related to or derived from x.
