The Fast-Track for Health study involves over 100 teenagers being subjected to 800 calorie-a-day diets as part of an experiment. This is broadly not considered to be sufficient nourishment for an infant.

You do realize, that they are "starving" fat kids in that study?

For reference:
Fast Track to Health. The alternate day fasting diet on weight loss and well-being in adolescents with obesity: a randomised controlled trial
Some "starving" would do them good, especially considering that they are getting everything they need except caloric intake.

A BMI of 30-45. That's this kind of kid:Key inclusion criteria
Adolescents aged 13 - 17 years (inclusive)
Obesity (defined as equivalent to adult BMI 30-45kg/m2)

I’d ask how actually the fuck did they even get funding for non-consensual human experimentation so obviously brushing up against health and safety violations, but then I was reminded that many consider fat people less human than themselves.

Re: Hundreds of Australian children to be starved for science
And you take that idea from where exactly?
Uhu. So that's why it's done by a hospital staff to people who are obese in an effort to filter out, whether diets can improve these children's ability to deal with results from obesety, like type 2 diabetes (aquired diabetes) and cardiovascular diseases.
Heaven forbid that some overweight people take in less calories than the average population burns per day, in order to loose some weight, while getting all the vitamins and whatnotelse their bodies need under the watchful eyes of trained medical personal. The horror, the torture! They might actually get a higher life expectancy from it. What a terrible fate!
Oh and I do not consider obese people "less human" than myself. My snark soley comes from Fuzzy's sensationalism and your misplaced righteous indignation. You people really need to learn to read and actually understand what is going on, instead of interpreting and wildely speculating in order to squeeze out some drama of even the smallest tempest in a teapot. These people aren't children, they are adolescents from the age of 13 to 17. These people are taking part voluntarily and can obviously cancel their participation at any point. These people are not being starved, they are put on a low calorie diet, while medical personal examines them regularly. There is absolutely no reason to freak out at all.
Oh and this gets better. I don't even need to dig particularly deep to see where the outrage is coming from:

She has a special interest in problematic eating, body image, and weight struggles. Louise fights to educate people about the cruel trap of dieting, which only sets us up to fail. She uses an evidence-based anti-dieting approach to empower people to achieve permanent lifestyle change.
Louise is wholly committed to the Heath At Every Size (HAES8) movement, and to spreading the word about shifting our attitudes about weight and health. Louise is determined to make a difference in changing society’s perceptions about health, diets, weight loss, and bodies. Louise believes that people can approach health and happiness without attaching it to weight changes. She is for body diversity and against fat prejudice.

Diet prison is a trap.
Body hatred. Body shame. Hiding.
Diet talk builds a prison in our minds.
Self blame. Obsession. Loathing.
Diet prison takes our power.

Only by seeing the prison constructed in our minds can we begin to dismantle it: UNTRAPPED grants you this clarity. This program is the bridge between body hatred and full embodiment; between restricting, food guilt, and bingeing to a relaxed and peaceful relationship with food; from exercise as punishment or payment to joyful, life-affirming movement. UNTRAPPED is a journey of deep and meaningful change.
Yup. She certainly has no interest in stirring up controversy and is only doing it, because she thinks of the children. There's absolutely no other incentive there for her whatsoever, because she totally doesn't want to sell her books or her magic feel-good life-coaching sessions, which cost $230 per 1h online session. She ain't in it for the publicity at all whatsoever. Geezus fucking christ.

So....do you not consider obesity to be a problem, or do you not consider dieting to be a
reasonable response to it?

I consider STARVING children to be a BAD thing, even if they are fat children, because starvation doesn't make people healthier.LittleRaven wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 4:05 amSo....do you not consider obesity to be a problem, or do you not consider dieting to be a

Re: Hundreds of Australian children to be starved for science
I can understand that, but it seems to me that Madner has done a reasonable job of establishing that that is not what's going on here. These kids are being enrolled by their parents and supervised by medical personnel, not locked in a dungeon. They have plenty of advocates, and frankly, Louise Adams seems to be a particularly unreliable one.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 4:34 amI consider STARVING children to be a BAD thing, even if they are fat children, because starvation doesn't make people healthier.
You JUST got burned falling for the outrage machine. Remember, that's all it is...someone trying to get you mad enough that your brain turns off in the hope of clicks.
