Most American Libertarians are right wing these days. They used to be left wing until the 1970s.

No, that is a misrepresentation, which is something the regressive left is notorious for, BTW. She made it clear from what she said and how she said it that she is a bigot, and you all are jumping to defend her.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:08 amTheir claim is that mentioning someone in terms of their identity is bigotry. Yeah I checked the wiki critical consensus. It had a positive and a negative, seemed fair. Brie Larson though wanting to hear from someone with a more personal connection though isn't really a problem.Admiral X wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:26 amYeah, it's not like that movie was based on a book or anything. Or that it's ludicrous to suggest that because of one's race and sex that one cannot possibly understand a movie.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:33 pm Larson's point was that forty year old white men aren't the target demographic of that film. Somebody pointed out to me the other day Nostalgia Critic's review of the film where it seemed a lot of things went way over his head. He should probably just stick to reviewing nostalgia material.
Right/left doesn't have the most to do with it. Absence of government in modern affairs vibes will with what it means to be right-wing. At the same time, a lot of laws that unfavor persons or groups align libertarians with liberals.

I agree with Makeshift's take on it. And I'm sorry, but understanding this residuation as bigotry is asinine.

No, that would be a nihilist, Donny. They're the ones who don't believe in anything.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:29 am But a libertarian would not care in the slightest what she said.

You have no idea what you're talking about, man.
Except that wasn't what she said, and the premise she was basing her premise on is entirely false. Why do you keep defending bigotry?BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:33 am Yeah I checked the wiki critical consensus. It had a positive and a negative, seemed fair. Because it's not bigotry. There's context in the literal article referenced in this thread that you're ignoring. If you're not able to speak to that in the slightest, as if it doesn't exist, then I'm sorry, but I"m not interested in discussing this with you.

That's an excellent question. Sincerely.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:12 amSo under all the layers of irony what do you actually think?
I think she's ready to discriminate against individuals for the basis of selective group equity, and I suspect that she's especially ready to discriminate against white men. As someone who thinks that the ethical approach is to treat individuals as individuals regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual preference, or age (except for dating purposes, medical treatment, filling certain fictional roles, etc.), I consider her attitude to be unethical. YMMV.
I think she's mildly unethical, not a monster; if she were drowning, I'd try to save her. I'm not going to see the movie, but I haven't watched or read any Marvel property since Thor: Ragnarok, anyway. (I'm still on the fence about seeing Into the Spiderverse because people whose opinion I respect liked it a lot.)
If I made a movie and said I didn't care what black women thought about it, because it wasn't made for them, I expect people would object. A lot of the same people who defend Brie Larson's comment, in fact.
But my point was that she discriminated. Some people will think that's fine, and others won't; that part I was leaving up to other people to make their own decision on.

How can you deny older white conservatives are the most privileged people on the whole planets? Especially the bunch we got in Congress.

Yes, it is. Let me make it crystal clear for you. Pretend the sexes and races are flipped around. Are you still going to try to defend that?
I accept your surrender. If you're not able to speak to that in the slightest, as if it doesn't exist, then I'm sorry, but I"m not interested in discussing this with you.
