People love to feel outraged about something, left or right.
Case in point: Those triggered by Larson's comments about not caring what forty year old white men think of A WRINKLE IN TIME.

Yes. Because that was such a well crafted and quite frankly genius level jokeSir Will wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:10 amHe literally added a winky face. Darth, how is not caring about somebody's opinion of a film discrimination, by even the most broad of definitions? That's been bugging me for a while.

Didn't say it was a good joke, just an obvious one that people made stupid replies to as if it was real.clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:34 amYes. Well, the rottentomatoes score is currently sitting at 84% with a 7.04/10 average among all critics and 63% with a 6.08/10 average among top reviewers. Metacritic rating is currently sitting at 66%. Whatever one might think of the social issues surrounding the film, it's pretty safe to say that a strong female superhero certainly wouldn't hurt the critical score. On top of that, while critics might not typically view superhero movies as high art, even formulaic MCU films don't have to pass a high bar to get a positive rating- every single one has a fresh rating, with only Thor Dark World and The Incredible Hulk falling below the "certified fresh" bar (at 66% and 67% positive, respectively).
Of course, superhero/comic book films are one genre where critics and fans don't necessarily agree. Critical consensus rates (and frankly, overrates) Black Panther higher than Infinity War, while fans clearly prefer the latter. I'm doubtful that will be the case with Captain Marvel.
All that is to say that there's no indication that this will be one of the great ones. We'll see what the box office brings, but I don't think it will live up to the hype and marketing, or the outrage for that matter. My guess would be "passable."

Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
There’s always this anticipation for Marvel’s first bomb. That the next one will not resonate. I most remember that with GUARDIANS and DOCTOR STRANGE. I don’t expect each film to be THE BEST EVER because most have merely been passable entertainment, but so far they haven’t made a blunder for the franchise on the level of say THE FINAL FRONTIER. So quality control has more or less been pretty solid.
Of course, I think IRON MAN 2 is more entertaining than a lot in the catalog and I see many rank that among the lowest of MCU.

Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
I don't think it's necessarily about the film being the best ever, but her placement is crucial and might be really important and kickass for Infinity War. Not to mention that she is shotgunning the series into Phase 4, unless her movie is considered Phase 3. She's supposed to be the most powerful hero in the MCU or something, so there's promotional hype.
..What mirror universe?
Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
Still phase 3. They were going to go more cosmic after this. But then the Fox deal happened and the Gunn stuff happened, who was going to help plan that aspect, so who knows what'll happen. Hopefully later this year they lay out some of their future plans.
Black Widow and Eternals next year I think. A Strange 2, Guardians 3, Spider-Man 3, Black Panther 2 at some point. Beyond that, dunno.
