I don't think Korben Dallas was a cop - he's a former major in Special Forces and currently/was a cab driver.

Its an exploration fleet that uses military ranks. I'm sure that if SpaceX was liable to get blown up by Klingons, Elon Musk would have put missiles on the thing. Doesn't make it a military ship.

And the idea that Starfleet is a military is what's being challenged, not a fact.

Starfleet is a state-sponsored armed force, tasked with, among other things, the defense of the Federation-members, it territories and allied entities. It's by it's very definition a military. Whether they use classic military ranks or unit organizations, has little relevancy on whether it's a military or not. At "worst", not using classic military ranks or units, would make it an irregular military. Still a military though.

And if Elon Musk arms his spaceships because they could be under attack, they'd become an irregular military or a paramilitary force.
