Now that the film has come out I would like to know what everyone's thought are on the film itself. For me, I think it's a fun ride with a good cast and fun action but other then that it's a pretty average movie. In terms of the other MCU movies I'd say that it's somewhere betwee Iron Man 2 and Doctor Strange as the plot is really all over the place but the rest of the movie is good enough to get you though it.
I'd say that the biggest flaw of the movie is, sadly, Captain Marvel herself. Brie Larson is giving a good performance and she is well written but I just don't find her to be as charismatic as her comic book counterpart who is, IMO, one of the most charismatic characters in Marvel. It didn't help that Larson herself is playing Carol as very stoic which really distracted me for most of the movie.
Another issue I have, and this one is a bit more nitpick, but I felt the comedy was a bit forced in places and under cut the drama in a lot of places. I mean we see how Fury lost his eye and the whole thing is just a joke that undercuts his line in Winter Solider about trusting others was how he lost it.
But other then that it's a fun movie, it's not as good as Wonder Woman which is still a great movie but it's not as bad as some have made it out to be. 6 or 7 out of 10 for me.
Thoughts on Captain Marvel
Re: Thoughts on Captain Marvel
It’s probably my favorite post-phase 1 origin movie? Well, assuming we don’t count Black Panther as an origin, it definitely doesn’t share the structure that IM/Thor/Cap/Ant-man/Strange do.
I quite liked Larson though, there’s a ton of subtleties they don’t draw attention to that make her stand out.
I do think the stoicism was meant to be awkward? It’s a mask she’s been forced to wear to fit in with Kree society, and as she regains memories and ultimately asserts her real identity her natural smartass and the other subtleties come out.
That civilian disguise though.... damn that was some lesbian energies I wasn’t ready for.

Solid Marvel film overall, with a plot that I enjoyed and a few twists that played out in an interesting fashion. I kind of wish we'd spent a little more time in Kree society as I am curious what the day-to-day is like for the civilians in the Empire.
I'm not knocking the movie...but...I actually think it would've made a better 10 episode series as that would've given us more time with ALL the characters and a chance to see them grow and interact a bit more. I mean there are some interesting glimpses of her Star Force Squad but there's just not enough time to really get into who they all are, and the same goes for some of the earth based characters. Of course I also want more Nick Fury/Captain Marvel interactions as well.
Upon reflection I suppose the above is a point in the movie's favor...it left me wanting more.

There are two kinds of ''left you wanting more''. There is ''Wow! What a cliffhanger!'' and there is ''y'know, they didn't really flesh this out...'' The latter is not a point in anything's favour.Ordo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:25 pm Solid Marvel film overall, with a plot that I enjoyed and a few twists that played out in an interesting fashion. (Note, I am not actually talking about Captain Marvel specifically, just media in general. I'll see the film next week if I do at all).

Well, since it's my opinion and I saw the movie...I'd say it's a point in the films favor since I liked all the characters enough to want to see more of them in the future.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:36 pmThere are two kinds of ''left you wanting more''. ....no that's something you assumed based on a conclusion you reached before the film came out. I don't know WHAT the long term plans for Captain Marvel are in the MCU. For all I know these characters will appear again in her next Solo film...I simply can't know that at this point and neither do you.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:57 pmAnd yet you admit that its not through design.Ordo wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:47 pmWell, since it's my opinion and I saw the movie...I'd say it's a point in the films favor since I liked all the characters enough to want to see more of them in the future.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 5:36 pmThere are two kinds of ''left you wanting more''. Face it, Ordo, CAPTAIN MARVEL is a failure.

I have no doubt she's going to save the day in the next Avengers movie.

The character is a cross between Hawkgirl and Green Lantern.
..What mirror universe?
