Just a note on Captain Marvel being called the most powerful Avenger. My problem with that is not that she's stronger than the men, its that she feels like a Deus Ex Machina inserted into the story because they could not work out how to defeat an impossible villain. She has come out of nowhere. She is the Elder Wand of Marvel.
This is a character that needed to be in Phase 2, simple as that.
Agreed and I have the same issue with Thor's power up and Hulk becoming more intelligent though in all fairness due to the IG I get why all three have become so much more powerful as the heroes need to level the playing field.
With that said I do hope that Carol gets a downgrade with her powers in the next film and seeing that Marvel Studios has the X-Men maybe they can have Carol have her near fatal encounter with Rogue who gets her other iconic powers while also weakening CM so she doesn't just brush off every enemy she has.

I thought the issue of her amnesia did enough for me to look at this film differently than other superhero movies.

The thing about the X-Men though is that its just a little too late. How will they explain mutants in the MCU when there hasn't been any for ten years? What have they been doing? I guess they could do some time-wimey stuff - it would be cool to get Old Man Logan in there. Hugh Jackman has said that he would do an MCU film is asked.
Already posted in the OMG This Movie Will End Civilisation As The Old Gods Predicted thread, but since it's buried between insecure whining #3087 and goalpost shift #823, I'll recap.
Had a great time. It didn't amaze me the way Winter Solider or Guardians or Ragnarok or Black Panther did, but it was a solidly entertaining action romp and faithful to Carol so far as I know her (I'm a bit out of date on Marvel comics other than Squirrel Girl at present, but I was around to see her get the promotion from Ms to Cap). Ben Mendelsohn was a gem, but I didn't feel like anyone was lacking - maybe Jude Law could've used a couple more scenes to flesh him out, but they'd likely have had to come at the start and I don't know that I'd mess with the pacing there as it was, so maybe it's for the best as-is. I'd heard the 'stoic Brie' thing beforehand in one of the few reviews I had a look at, but I was actually surprised at how expressive she was, there were moments I was put a bit off-balance that she wasn't as closed-off given her circumstances as I'd have expected. I'm weird with faces though, I don't always read people the same as others.
Overall in terms of other MCU films, it put me in mind of Captain America: The First Avenger. It's been bettered over and over since, but it's a damn fine film on its own merits, and I feel like they did the work needed for CM2 to step it up the way Winter Soldier did and really be something special.
I was unimpressed by Larson and actively pissed off by the way Fury lost his eye.
The movie itself was entertaining enough but felt like it lacked emotional depth and wasn't terribly memorable. Kinda like the reverse of Wonder Woman--Wonder Woman was a massively flawed piece with a spark of genius, this was a bland film without unusually inspired thoughts.
I'm probably biased because I've been spoiled by Black Panther, which was the best Marvel movie yet and possibly the best movie I've ever seen, a work of genius that deserved Best Picture at the Oscars (but sadly was too popular and didn't fellate the old rich white guys who vote at the Academy like Green Book did, so it didn't get the win), but still, this was a sadly meh movie. 6 or 7 out of 10.
I was actually amused by how he lost his eye, even more so seeing how much of an inexperienced cat lover he was. Now I want a spin off of shorts where he threatens underlings that he’ll feed them his cat if they don’t file reports on time.
Pretty much exactly what I expected, middle-of-the-road MCU, which is to say it's a decent enough action movie but probably not something I'll go out of my way to watch again unless a friend wants to or something. As far as solo movies go, I think it's better than the first two Thor movies, that one Hulk movie, and Iron Man 2. Probably on-pair with the Ant Man and Doctor Strange movies.
If I had a problem with the movie, it's actually the worldbuilding if anything. You really don't get a good grasp on what the Kree want aside from a general idea.
