Is he really, though? Pinning down whether or not someone has empathy is tricky to do - even in psychology.

Stay safe, NZ folks.
I hope this sick garbage gets life in solitary, and dies covered in his own filth, fully alert but unable to move after a failed suicide attempt, 30-40 years from now in a hole deep under the earth where he's been rotting alone and unmourned for decades. Let him die alone and forgotten.

I dunno. I wish him life in jail, but life in solitary? I dunno. I'm a firm believer in absolute justice, even if it's a myth, and... still. Just an hour or two in solitary every day would be fine. Or two weeks every six months or something. I don't wanna be kind to violent savages who break the law, but I also don't want US to go the same way.

Is Islam a terrorist movement? Please don't try to paint everybody with the terrorist brush unless they're all or at least mostly doing terrorism, and most of them aren't.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 2:29 pm The killer is yet another sign that all the geeky misogynist racists on 4chan (who went to found 8chan) have stopped being a bunch of trolls and become a terrorist movement.

This just reminds me of Chuck's chiding of Neelix in "Parturition" on how we ALL have these kind of drives, instincts, whatever you wanna call them. But as he said, we live in a civilized society, and need to restrain them, not act on them, and be as good as we can to one another.

I'm pretty sure Islam deserves a lot more benefit of the doubt than /pol/Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 5:35 pmIs Islam a terrorist movement? Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
I skimmed what is claimed to be his manifesto. I don't know for sure that it is, and I'm suspicious that at least some parts of it are intended as propaganda rather than what he really thinks. I won't link it. Search for "The Great Replacement" and you might find it, but it's not all that surprising. He's a white ethnonationalist fascist, basically.
He seems driven by ethnonationalism more than anything else. Not exactly racism by every definition, since he doesn't call any race inferior or call for them to have lesser treatment in "their lands", but believing every state should be its own ethnicity (though he does want "Constantinople" taken back... ) . He keeps going on about birth rates and considers anyone not white in a mostly-white country to be an invader, and himself a "partisan" in a war.
He has a special hate on for muslims, not because of any terror attacks as far as I can tell, but for immigrating and breeding, and secondarily for medieval warfare between Islam and the west.
He hopes that his actions will heat up the culture war by getting the left to overreact, and then getting the right to fight back against that, and that this will lead to some kind of popular revolution in the west creating ethnostates. I think that "revolts against restriction on guns leads to ethnostate" misses a few steps. He does seem to consider himself somewhat grandiosely... sometimes. He does sometimes think he'll be hailed as a hero, and sometimes says he'll be forgotten.
There's other stuff in there. He likes Trump as a symbol of white nationalism, but not as a president. He's an environmentalist and pro worker's rights to semi-socialist lengths (seize the means of production -- on a case by case basis...), a self-avowed fascist but not a nazi, anti-democracy, resents the US siding with muslims in the Balkans (and wants the US balkanized so it can't project power like that again), doesn't like individualism in the west, is an expert in "gorilla(sic) warfare" , hates Marxism, hates corporations, etc.

It doesn't matter what you're "pretty sure" about. Most people in /pol/ aren't terrorists. A lot of them might be "racist" or "misogynist," or actually racist and misogynist, but having a terrorist come from that group doesn't make that group terrorist any more than terrorists coming from Islam makes all muslims terrorists.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 6:19 pmI'm pretty sure Islam deserves a lot more benefit of the doubt than /pol/Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2019 5:35 pmIs Islam a terrorist movement? Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
I see Islam as being no different than Christianity - no surprise given I'm a strong spiritualist and reject organized religion. I think it holds us back as a species.
