I think there were, but I think they were both done by the same guy. He walked into one mosque, killed everyone he could find there, then drove to another one for an encore performance.

Police response time left a little something to be desired.

It's really hard to feel sorry for the victims, as much as I do, when this shit is happening all over. But that this is New Zealand, I think it's a little easier to emphasize with them and their families more than here, because nothing's getting done and we are in fact moving backwards. Though I'm just dreading the anti-gun control nuts taking the chance to smugly proclaim, "See? Mass shootings happen even over there!" Even though... the population sizes are different, and that's the exception, not the norm. Hell, even during America in the 1990s, with the assault weapons ban in full effect, we had the Columbine shooting.

Yeah I've seen that line of rhetoric with, say, Australia. While it doesn't really weigh directly against the right to carry a gun for say self defense, the volume of attacks over time in places like that don't compare to the US.

A Mosque attack? Definitely feels like a right-wing hate crime to me. But then, wasn't the guy also spouting Internet memes? What a disgusting shitstain. And some assholes in the world wanna try and put a sympathetic face on guys like THAT? No thanks.

He hopes that his actions will heat up the culture war by getting the left to overreact, and then getting the right to fight back against that, and that this will lead to some kind of popular revolution in the west creating ethnostates. I think that "revolts against restriction on guns leads to ethnostate" misses a few steps. He does seem to consider himself somewhat grandiosely... sometimes. He does sometimes think he'll be hailed as a hero, and sometimes says he'll be forgotten.

Well if I'm reading this correctly, then I must say that he's not gonna get such a reaction out of me.

Latest news articles are saying that the (now two) other people arrested were taken into custody in connection with firearms possession, but police have no information about their involvement (if any) in the attack.

This sure LOOKS lone wolfie at this point.
