X, don't try to turn this into a "good guy with a gun" nonsense argument. The guy who tried to stop the shooter there managed to disarm the shooter there by throwing a credit-card reader at him, retrieved the shooter's dropped shotgun as the shooter retrieved a second weapon, and scared him off by shooting out his car window.
That's not a "good guy with a gun!" cowboy story.
Neither is that of Naeem Rashid, the Pakistani immigrant who charged the gunman unarmed at the Al Noor mosque trying to stop him but failed and died in the hospital. He didn't have a gun, he just tried to take on the guy with his bare hands and damn near took out the scrawny little shithead.
When the shooter attempted to continue his terrorist rampage, the cops didn't shoot him, they rammed his car off the road and hauled his ass out after he surrendered so he could get a media circus.
At no point did a "good guy with a gun" stop that psycho. It was good people with courage inside a shell of metal equipped with an internal combustion engine.

Considering how many truck attacks we've seen not too long ago, that's not the argument you think it is.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 4:41 pm X, don't try to turn this into a "good guy with a gun" nonsense argument. You do realise that straight after this attack New Zealand has started moves to ban semi-automatic weaponsYup. You realize this guy's spree was stopped by an armed civilian who shot back, right?

Also I can't find any reference to him being shot by an armed civilian and that said civilian has been arrested.

Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
Sigh... here we go with the same ol' "gun-free zone" bullshit... let everyone have guns! Let's bring guns to church and hospitals and schools. That will surely keep us safe, won't it?

Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
I have to correct myself a little, or at least something I implied. My understanding is now that this was to some degree reprisal for Islamic terrorist attacks, even if his manifesto didn't much focus on that. He had said his trigger was the death of a little girl in an Islamic terrorist attack, though.
The shooter was already in violation of New Zealand firearm law. He used semi-automatic rifles (though not exclusively) and in New Zealand, a semi-automatic rifle is supposed to use magazines with seven rounds at maximum; his carried more. Somehow, when he planned to murder dozens of people, this regulation wasn't the line his conscience refused to cross.
Someone allegedly did use a shotgun to drive him away... but the shotgun itself was the projectile. The gunman knew it was empty, and someone threw it through his car window.

Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
Yes, yes he did. You described exactly how it was done. He got lucky because he wasn't allowed to be already armed from the get-go and was able to use his would-be murderer's own weapon. He stopped shooting and ran away after that. No amount of whining or hair-slitting on your part is going to change that. The majority of mass shootings that end before they've managed to just kill everyone are because someone shot back at them. The mental gymnastics you gun-grabbers go through is hilarious.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 4:41 pm X, don't try to turn this into a "good guy with a gun" nonsense argument. Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
All I see from this is that other countries outside those that are active war zones or those with equally severe social unrest are far more responsible about gun ownership than we are with our cowboy gun culture. Obama was right. This stuff just does not happen in other advanced countries, because while the argument that it is inevitable is true, we can at least take steps to actively ensure it will be kept to a minimum. You know what's also inevitable? Another terrorist attack like 9/11. Yet I bet you object to stuff like the TSA, don't you, Admiral X? Which was created and funded with the express intent of stopping another 9/11. When it comes to more vague, abstract stuff like government, you'll oppose it, but when it comes to guns, that's where you're a hypocrite.

Nothing of what you just said makes any kind of sense.

Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
Yes it does. When "the government" oversteps its bounds in the name of security, you'll object. When it does so in trying to regulate guns to save lives, you'll object. Those two contradict. And this gun worship from many Americans does seem to place value on a weapon meant to maim or kill over a breathing person with the right to live.
