Everyone here knows I dislike STD. But I'm starting to wonder, for those like me, for feel the same way, that it's a betrayal of everything Trek stood for, what would be a good alternative to what we see on screen every week? I'm actually thinking they took the wrong approach. If this is set ten years prior to TOS, and in the Prime Timeline (which is what they keep telling us, then write it as if it's not), why not show the Enterprise under the command of Christopher Pike prior to "The Cage" or even afterwards? His adventures, that finally end with him passing it off to Kirk. You could even attempt to bridge the gap between Enterprise and TOS and try and correct some of the problems that went into that franchise. And it's not as if we haven't seen the world of Trek ten years prior to TOS, it was in "The Cage" pilot. If JJ Abrams could give us something similar to the original TOS outfits, surely STD's writers could have given us something similar to the outfits they had in "The Cage." You could even explain why Spock is more emotional in this era, that perhaps he's giving in to his human side more often.
But then, that's not what they did.

I’m fine with what we got, all I ask is they improve on what they have. Pike has been a great addition to the show, but I’m glad he’ll only serve as the guest captain of the season and look forward to a new dymamic.

why don't they put this thing I want in the show that's actually putting in the thing I'm asking for, which I wouldn't know since I don't watch the show, but even if i did i know it wouldn't be exactly the way I want it so the show sucks, discuss please
Re: What would make a better premise for STD?
If they'd set it like 100 years post-NEM and kept the look of the Klingons consistent (or kept the look but called it a different species), I bet a lot of the complaints wouldn't be there. The show's politics and writing would probably still be an issue, though.

Season 1 was solid accidental right wing stuff.Admiral X wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 6:07 am If they'd set it like 100 years post-NEM and kept the look of the Klingons consistent (or kept the look but called it a different species), I bet a lot of the complaints wouldn't be there. None? Because it wouldn't be Discovery then, it'd be some other Trek show. I'm happy with the show we have.

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but I had an idea for a show years ago that would be set around 90 years after Nemesis and the crew would take an artificial wormhole to Andramida where one of the main villains would be the Kelvan. The ship would be called Apollo and would have a retro look similar to the TOS era movies mixed with old school NASA capsules.Admiral X wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 6:07 am If they'd set it like 100 years post-NEM and kept the look of the Klingons consistent (or kept the look but called it a different species), I bet a lot of the complaints wouldn't be there. As for Discovery goes, it looks like TNG’s future, they should have gone with that. There was no reason for a prequel and no reason to make Burnham related to Spock.

I think the premise could easily have worked. Just use the ENT aesthetics with a bit of 'The Cage' splashed here and there. Maintaining continuity with the other shows isn't that hard, you just need to plan things out properly and avoid the crutch of constant references and tie-ins.
Like capitalise on the development that Enterprise gave the federation founder races (plus the Denobulans), focus on interpersonal relationships and character pieces or take a deeper look at the Orions.
In terms of shows I'd personally have preferred to see get made here are some suggestions:
A show about Worf as a captain.
A section 31 show, but rather than black ops action it's a spy thriller with plotting, double agents and the Tal Shiar.
A show set at Starfleet academy, maybe showing Cardassians, Benzites and Ferengi beginning to fill out the ranks.
