The thing you seem to be conveniently forgetting is that GR declared TAS non-canon, and it's only been more recently that CBS undid that to basically sell DVDs. This is why such a big deal was made out of the holodeck in TNG.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 5:36 pm like the idea of no holographic simulations existing in the 23rd century because that's what Harry Kim said in one episode, despite TAS featuring such a thing on the Enterprise (which was originally conceived by Gene for the third season).

You're right on that, which IIRC was because Paramount didn't have full rights on TAS so Gene was quick to want to leave that behind. This can be easily reconciled in that there's lines throughout TNG that suggest the simulations they're experiencing are actually upgrades, as opposed to holographic simulations being an entirely new concept at that time. I'm thinking of when Pulaski makes her first visit and is impressed at how more sophisticated it is compared to programs she's been in. Later on Janeway would talk about her childhood memories of that children's program she interacted with that Naomi enjoys visiting. Harry might have been mistaken in assuming there's no holographic simulations in the 23rd century, much like how Wesley mistakenly mentioned the Klingons being members of the Federation.Admiral X wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 6:19 pmThe thing you seem to be conveniently forgetting is that GR declared TAS non-canon, and it's only been more recently that CBS undid that to basically sell DVDs. So far the simulation seen in DIS has only been a souped up first person shooting program, as opposed to a fully interactive experience where you talk with lifelike characters.

The problem with STD, the biggest one I can see so far, is that if they want this to continue to be a viable product, they need to win over the old-school fans, who as I've said elsewhere, feel like me - that STD is retroactively hurting the previous lore. We'll see if the Picard series can turn that around, but given STD's direction, I have no doubt they'd do something stupid for that show. My deepest wish is they don't touch the Dominion. As it stands now, they're so far the only race to escape badass decay like the Q, the Borg, and the Klingons. And if Kurtzman gets his grubby claws into them, it'll be all over...

Winning all fans is only a bonus, not the main objective. Trek has ALWAYS wanted to expand its audience beyond the fan base because that’s the only way it could thrive. As we’ve seen with ENT’s fate, the fan base was not enough to keep it afloat.

So I'm curious - and I really tend to breeze past interviews and so on and just watch the episodes on their own, so maybe one of y'all has read something that can answer this - what the heck is up with Sara Mitich? I mean I figured she'd had it with sitting in the makeup chair while it's still dark outside for a whole season only to get like one line every other episode, so they recast Airiam, and gave her the role of Nilsson just to let her show her actual face before she moved on to some other project. But she's still around, and just moved up onto the bridge in a way that made me think she'll at least be an ongoing presence. What gives?
Not that I mind her, plus it gives Disco only a single step to The Expanse, rather than having to bridge it via Commodore vas Sexyvoice in Beyond, which is also fun.
...y'know if they're not bringing back Pike, and this is a few years before Kirk's time anyway, so the Prime version of Paris presumably may still be a captain... what's the legal situation on the JJVerse, does the fact that she appeared first there mean they couldn't use even the Prime version of her on tv? It can't take that much time to film for Avasarala now she's back behind a desk at the UN.

My understanding is that Sara Mitich wasn’t comfortable with the make up process so that’s why she was recast in a different part for the second season rather than just let go.

I had a feeling she was a replacement, but didn't know it was the same actor lol. Did they even introduce her? It seems like she just walked onto the bridge in a post memorial vibe with everybody.

I don't know if her name was spoken until now, but she's showed up a couple of times. I missed her in episode one (didn't even realise Airiam was different; I'm not good with faces at the best of times, and the mask didn't help) but she was in the cargo bay when were trawling in the gravity rock, and then a few episodes later she's down in the Shroom Room when Airiam sabotaged the drive, shouting techy dialogue back and forth with Stamets.

Bill and Ted had a better understanding of how to use time travel than the Red Angel.
Also: Time Crystal. From the writers who replaced the ones that thought a magic mushroom drive was a good idea comes magic time crystals.
I really can't help but hate this show sometimes.
