My perception is, that he means regressive leftists, when he writes regressive leftists.

He's clearly more to the political right than I am and I consider myself quite far left of the middle. I can't remember him ever accusing me of being part of the regressive left and as far as I can tell, I always had pleasent conversations with him, though our outlook on things is quite different and hard to reconcile at times.

It's funny how those left more towards the middle of the society, whether they be right or left in their particulars, are left in nowhereland and automatically assumed to be part of the extremes or only talking in extremes nowadays.

In any case, I don't see people on the "regressive left" going around shutting down churches on Christmas Eve, forcing happy mothers to get abortions, deliberately poisoning the town water supply, etc. Evil in the democrats tends to be more base-line, human activity like fucking interns or taking bribes or getting us enmeshed in pointless wars.
