clearspira wrote: Sat Mar 30, 2019 12:37 pm So who exactly is this Red Angel? Do we have another Suliban and Xindi on our hands who were galaxy ending threats that were never mentioned ever again because reasons? I'll say this much in STD's defence: if he/she has yet to carve up Florida like a ham then it isn't as bad as ENT in terms of continuity breaking disasters.
Another one who doesn't watch the show and shits on it... Watch the two last episodes and you will know who is the Red Angel.
I have no intention of watching this crap, that's why i'm asking. And if you were paying attention, I called it *probably* better than ENT in this one specific instance so there's that.
After telling us, repeatedly, that there is literally no other possibility in the universe, that the ONLY person the Red Angel could POSSIBLY be, no ifs, ands, or buts, it's literally a 100% perfect match in every possible way and it's even impossible to fake these results because quantum, the Red Angel is absolutely definitely certainly 100% Michael Burnham...

it's really her mom.

They figured out how to lie in the show itself. This is probably a bad thing for the show overall since it only contributes to the show's current state of being an incoherent mess that makes no sense, engages in treacly Hallmark movie-style ableism where the person with neurological issues is really super speshul and nobody understands how magical and powerful they are, and generally sucks ass.

Did I mention that Spock is now basically the possibly-autistic kid from "The Wizard" (the '80s kids movie with the PowerGlove)? Yeah. That's what they turned Mr Spock into. A grown-up Magical Retarded Kid. A trope that's at least 30-40 years out of date by now. A trope that I, a person with multiple neurological disorders, find deeply personally offensive and quite a lot of other people seem to, too.

Fuck STD. Even when they try to fix their goddamn mess they fuck it up even worse.

Wait waht? She just targeted Spock because he's the only one with the brainwaves or whatever to be able to pick up what she was saying coherently. Given the fact that they have telepathic capability, and it's understandably linked to the socially evolutionary effect of their logical cadence, there's a considerate narrative transformation in the writing. This might resonate with people that have that condition, but it's not blatant autism metaphor.

They specifically say he has L'tak Terai (I am pretty sure the only way STD writers know how to make something alien is to add an apostrophe), which in one episode is kinda-dyslexia and then in another is just Vulcan dyslexia. Who the hell knows, they sure don't. Basically it's "you are special because you see the world differently". He's probably also his own grandfather.

Oh, and there is still plenty of time for the Red Angel to definitely 100% be Michael. Since the mitochondrial DNA is apparently what the suit uses and they said Michael and her mom are almost indistinguishable in such a regard, they are clearly setting up the possibility of her donning the suit later. Well, either that or they straight up told us "Michael is the RA" only to later in the episode say "Ha, we tricked you, she isn't!" A plot twist created by just lying wouldn't be the most idiotic thing, I guess.

But, if she can put on the suit and create a soft-reboot that gives us a Season 3 worth watching, then I'm all for it.

Dyslexia/autism as a superpower is this generation's magical native/foreigner trope. Both are offensive and both are lazy. Funny really given how much they crowed about inclusion with Tilly.

It's the sort of April Fool that cannot catch out someone who Hails Doomcock. He would have told me long beforehand.
