Yeah... but they already have a Joker in the DCEU. They can't just change him completely especially as we know that there is a Suicide Squad 2 in the works.
It's actually a prequel.

Also keep in mind how the dCEU's steam is running. In other words, not as expected. You didn't even have Cavill in Shazam! which was a bad sign when it was announced so many months ago. While Wonder Woman did good, they are finding a second wind with their not as popular characters (which is exactly what MCU did with the Avengers).

Plus a notable difference with DC's adaptations is that they are much more disparate between each other between properties. Marvel entertainment gravitated as much as they could things to the MCU, even if they had no business being under the brand in the first place. DC's straight to video features were popular and didn't start a universe of their own for a while, and were prominently standalone each except for two sequels that they did in the DCUAOM (aside from Dark Knight Returns which was one project).

My criticism isn't that this movie isn't connected to the DCEU, but the idea of doing both standalone movies and more DCEU movie simultaneously. We had Aquaman a few months ago, Shazam just came out, and there's still DCEU projects being juggled- amongst all that they put a separate movie out that's completely unrelated but stars a character that has an incarnation in their cinematic universe?

Also recent news seems to suggest that Suicide Squad 2 will actually be a soft reboot of sorts on its own within the DCEU- just another example of DC's master planning.

I mean, I get they're probably just trying to feel around to see what works after BvS/Justice League/Suicide Squad got mixed receptions, but these just seem like a really bad tactics to me. I don't mind as long the movies are good of course, it just seems like they don't really know what they're doing.

I agree with the idea that DC was trying too hard to recreate the MCU. Suicide Squad was a response to Guardians of the Galaxy, and it felt like the producers had shoes to fill instead of making something true to tone. I'm surprised nobody ever brings up how redeemable these characters come across regarding the main threat of the story.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if Green Lantern Corps is gonna be any good, and it might legitimately be the first movie to draw me back to theaters since 2011 - ignoring Toy Story 4, cuz I'm seeing that regardless, and have known that for years.
