Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?

Okay, I'll concede that Bay is the worst. Then again, given the power structure of the US, and our patriarchy and how modern entertainment sucks (my personal opinion), I'm way too cynical, as everyone has noted.

You really should go see BAD BOYS II, it’s truly a work of art. Word is that because Bay’s film PEAR HARBOR got trashed by critics, he made BAD BOYS II as a big middle finger to everyone by intentionally making it the loudest and most offensive movie he could make. It’s an exercise in bad taste. Jokes being made at the expense of a dead woman with big breasts when the characters are investigating a morgue, being referred to as the “the bimbo”. Then there’s rat fucking.

I’ll be honest, I wish Bay was doing BAD BOYS III instead of whoever is attached to direct. At least he’s not making even more Transformers.

Oh yeah, he did Pearl Harbor, didn't he? Haven't seen that in years.

PEARL HARBOR really is something he should feel embarrassed about more than all Transformer films combined.

I consider Pearl Harbor more realistic than other war movies set during the time period, like, say, A Woman in Berlin. And that's all I'm going to say on that subject.

I don't believe it is a failure, but in my opinion Captain Marvel would rank somewhere in the middle of the list. There are much better Marvel movies, such as Black Panther, but also worse ones, like Thor 2.

Still can't believe people were bringing up "how much money it's made." I mean, I learned there are some films that make three billion, so... while an achievement, is adjusted for inflation, and can only be stacked alongside the film if you can conclude it was a good movie, with engaging characters and clever plot. Otherwise, it's just useless except to those at the top.

Making a billion dollars isn't exactly the most common thing to happen. Less than forty films have actually pulled that off, so it's only natural when CAPTAIN MARVEL breaks that barrier as it's now the seventh MCU film to do it. That's why it's considered news worthy.

Besides, it's only part of the film's success.

The most notorious thing I remember out of Bad Boys 2 was the scene with Lawrence's daughter's date where they call him the n-word. I saw Ebert and like 2-3 other reviews just lambast the movie for that part alone.

Bay's humor and style is adolescent. Bare midriff shots of Fox opening a carhood. It fits into Maxim magazine more than anything. And that pretty much goes for all his films.

The n-word is used a lot in BAD BOYS 2 beyond just that one scene. The one I think of is the scene with Smith and Lawrence having a stand-off with the KKK lead by Michael Shannon.
