FYI: The internet exists in real life. It is not separate from. It is not a sandbox filled with AI that go away when you turn it off.

I see this sentiment about an imagined dichotomy between "real life" and "on the web" a lot, and I think it's a bad premise that we all buy into more than we should.

The disturbing thing to me are the many who not only look on it as such, but treat it as something of a game.

Now that did offend me. I have problems, insecurities, and anxieties, and tbf, this guy does too, but he's clutching to me so tightly because he literally drives everyone else away.

And you continue to talk to this guy because....?

@Beastro Because I feel sorry for him. I understand insecurities, anxieties, and being socially awkward, and even a loner, and misunderstood by others, and having a dark core. I feel like he's the right-wing version of me ten years ago, and I can't help but hope he might improve in the next decade. Not give up his political beliefs, mind, so much as refine them more to be less... what he is. Like how he doesn't understand the subtle nuances to this, how complex political topics are. I know a Libertarian and a few right-leaning people on Discord, and I think they're smarter than he is. They're all older too. I also feel sorry for how he's driven everyone away, because he's not THAT bad. And it's not my nature to wanna give up on people, I guess.

First, your standards of what you can take do not define what counts as slinging mud at other people. Second, the "if I posted the same things" shows that your sense of justification is from Yuka failing to meet some rhetorical standard that marks him as worthy of respect, rather than just you being polite to him because it is the way humans should theoretically conduct themselves in polite discourse.

Well, Slash, you're just weird. I've sadly resorted to a few personal attacks on this web site, but once I feel I went too far, I always apologized for it. I mean, look at my response to Makeshift Python and Mixed Drops.

I was nice by Internet standards. I just accused you of picking the worst of side x for prog brownie points. There is way worse stuff that i could have done.

Saying "there is way worse stuff that I could have done" doesn't in any way diminish or negate how bad the things you said are. Much in the same way, if I pour a soda on your face and then said "Hey, I could have done way worse. At least I didn't take a dump on the hook of your car while looking you in the eye", that doesn't make you any less upset that I poured soda on you.

You are deciding that your own standards for politeness and consideration are the only ones that matter, and those, by your very nature, will be tailored to fit your comfort zone and not anyone else's.
