Hey, no need to name-call. I'm not well-versed in Oriental languages. To me, Oriental symbols pretty much all look the same. But Korean, whatever. It's still Asian trolls.

Distinct within American culture, some American English speakers consider the term "Oriental" to be a pejorative and disparaging term when used to describe a person[1]. John Kuo Wei Tchen, director of the Asian/Pacific/American Studies Program and Institute at New York University, said the basic criticism of the term developed in the U.S. in the 1970s. Tchen has said: "With the U.S.A. anti-war movement in the '60s and early '70s, many Asian Americans identified the term 'Oriental' with a Western process of racializing Asians as forever opposite 'others'."[19] In a 2009 American press release related to legislation aimed at removing the term "oriental" from official documents of the State of New York, Governor David Paterson said: "The word 'oriental' does not describe ethnic origin, background or even race; in fact, it has deep and demeaning historical roots".[20]

In 2016, President Barack Obama signed legislation striking the word from federal law.[21]

Only some people consider the term Oriental to be racist. You know, the more sensitive among us.
And most Americans probably can't tell the difference between the different Asian writing. Just means he isn't that big of a weeb is all. Took me a while to tell the difference and I've consumed a lot of Japanese media and hardly any Korean or Chinese media.

Racial differences are stupid anyway, the same as gender differences. It's just one more thing that divides us and keeps us apart. It's artificial and shallow, just like most people are.

If you believe that someone might be racist, that's one thing. But people who are quick to call other people names and hurl insults do not seem like good people. There are ways to get your point across without vitriol.

This being the same guy who questioned if I'm good at my core? Which I already have enough doubts about that on my own, thanks. I don't need other people questioning it. Then he goes and calls me a racist, simply because I like some Japanese culture and anime a bit, but don't totally geek out over it to the extent others do.

Also, I was never aware Oriental was considered some sort of potentially racist slur. To me it always indicated someone from the nations in the Orient, although apparently it's shifted throughout history from the Near East to the Far East, and generally means Asia. Which is, yes, somewhat unspecific (personally I always thought Orient meant "Far East").
