Re: Senator says unemployment is only low because everyone is working two jobs
AOC is a representative btw, not senator. Common misconception.

Fixed. Why do I keep thinking she's a senator?

Her prominent coverage kinda suggests her decisions are weighted rather heavily as is more the case with a senator, but that's admittedly just me.

This... actually makes total sense. If you have to take multiple positions to make ends meet, then that would equal less positions for everyone else to fill (though, her wording on that could have been better). It's simple math. Now, how do we make it so the majority of the working public only needs the one position to survive?
And yeah, AOC gets way more press coverage than a House Rep. typically gets. I'm chalking it up to her natural charisma and intelligence. If politics runs its course for her, she'll probably get a talk show out of all of this.

Except unemployment isn't positions left unfilled, unemployment is people without positions. As far as making so the majority of people only need one job, about 4.9% of people held multiple jobs on 2017. 4.9% < 50%, so I think that one's done.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 2:09 pm This... actually makes total sense. Yes, I was saying that folks can't find positions because many other folks have taken multiple positions just to get by. But if that figure is correct (if slightly outdated)... The logic is sound, but the issue seems to be exaggerated. I see where you're coming from, but AOC was saying that unemployment is low because everyone is working two jobs.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 3:58 pmYes, I was saying that folks can't find positions because many other folks have taken multiple positions just to get by. It sounds less like she's trying to talk about actual conditions and more about perceived notions of capitalism and the metrics we employ to determine progress. The video itself is titled "why socialism is better."
Also this video was from July '08, and she wasn't a representative at that point. So the title of the thread being that a representative made such assertion is a tad misleading.
