Re: Wonder Woman (2011) aka Pants to be Darkened
I was giving it the benefit of the doubt. Starting a story in the middle of a deep recess in a character flaw CAN work, but it didn't work in the pilot because of all the coding that suggests this is normal and desirable rather than wrong. Personally I don't even think a justification is necessary right away . . . but if that was seriously what they were going for it would be SO much more helpful if there was one.

For all we've seen, those people in the quarantine could have been involved in legitimate medical testing. Not once do we actually see the villains do anything criminal. Sure, we're later TOLD they were victims, but nothing more. I don't buy the idea that this was part of some planned arc where she realizes she was taking things too far. No one who isn't a villain or strawman objects to her behavior in any way. Everyone else cheers her. I'm glad Chuck pointed out that the initial "victim" was a cheat and possible criminal, himself. The movie certainly didn't.
Yes, it's a pilot and things change from pilot, and even during the course of the first season. However, for this to have gotten as far as it did in the production process means it went through edits and rewrites and was approved for shooting. These were the takes they chose as exemplifying what the show was about. That they couldn't see this for what it is when every person who I've seen review this can, shows a real disconnect.

That happens sometimes in productions. A game of telephone via the script being rewritten constantly for whatever reason(like a producer wants to feel like they contributed, or thinking that adding celebrity cameos will help with demographics), and it becomes a sort of Frankenstein's monster mess of a project. I'm betting that's what happened.cdrood wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 8:47 pm For all we've seen, those people in the quarantine could have been involved in legitimate medical testing. Diana having three conflicting identities for no clear reason really does seem emblamatic of this story's overall problems.

As Wonder Woman fan I do find it funny how in that pilot she acted far worse than Batman when it was same thing that she was so angry at towards him during they first meeting in Trinity comic book story line were Trinity fought Ra's Al Ghul, Bizarro and Artemis. In that she considered his methods to be barbaric. Yes Diana has been trained to kill but she only does it as last resort like when she had to kill Maxwell Lord (meta human with mind control powers) who was going to make Superman kill countless people so she prefers not to.

I don't know if I'd ever really enjoy a dark and gritty Wonder Woman. I'm OK if she kills when she has to (like in the Maxwell Lord example), and with her being more martial than Supes or Bats, but she's supposed to be a fairly friendly person. She''s supposed to be respected like Superman, not feared like Batman. And unless she really is an ambassador in the setting, she'd spend most of the pilot in a cell.
If it was supposed to be a look at her darker side, I think the Justice League Unlimited episode "Hawk and Dove" did a much better job..

Hell, even Superman and Batman called out the "Maxwell Lord" thing, and that was a fairly "win or lose, no third option" situation.

I do think that it seem like something that CW approve of.

I think it would work if instead of ending with the employee celebrating have them all run from her to show she did a very bad thing.cdrood wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 8:47 pm For all we've seen, those people in the quarantine could have been involved in legitimate medical testing.
