If the military hasn't turned on the leadership, then it isn't a coup. The situation in Venezuela appears very confused right now, but IF that's happening on a large scale, then I haven't seen it. There did seem to be some troops defecting early on, but that trend hasn't continued.

So, for the moment, it appears Bolton is correct.

John Bolton is an ax-crazy bloodthirsty psychopath who holds American servicepeople in open contempt, once saying "It's not my job to care about their lives, don't tell me how many soldiers will die" when informed that his plan to invade Iran would cost, minimum, 100,000 dead Americans and probably more for little to no strategic gain and more likely a bleeding sore draining blood and treasure.

That he's saying this means it's quite likely a coup, and a badly-planned one that he ordered to jump the gun, because John Bolton jacks off to news stories about Americans dying in out of the way places.

I mean, if you want to get technical, you might call it an uprising, or a revolution, or maybe even a civil war. But that's just getting pedantic. ;)

I guess it depends on whether or not the 2019 elections can be considered valid. Maduro pulled a lot of shady stuff leading up to it, but it might have all been technically legal. Imagine if a U.S. president packed the Supreme Court with 200 new justices who decided that anything the president did was automatically constitutional.

If the question is, is the U.S. involved in any way other than political or economic pressure... I honestly don't know. Though I'm not a fan of Maduro, I hope not.

I'm kind of wondering about the Russians that showed up recently. It reminds me a bit of what I read about how they got involved in Afghanistan.
