Then again I am not among those that turn conversation about superhero movie into political one either. I am just sensible man enjoying enterteinment.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2019 10:56 pm I don't think Gal has that much charm actually, but that's probably more of a Wonder Woman thing. Yeah... but the creators of the film have deliberately put the politics in. The politics ARE the film.

Re: Avengers: Endgame
What politics were even IN "Captain Marvel"???
It was the lamest, most pathetically moderate-pandering "please don't call us teh SJWs!!!" corporate pablum I've ever seen Marvel put out. It was so hilariously apolitical the main character had no personalilty or interesting traits and her "journey" could be replaced with literally Luke Skywalker's with the names and places changed and nobody would care.
Compare Black Panther, which actually HAS a very obvious set of political messages and isn't shy about challenging everything from the American establishment to black nationalists, and it should be pretty obvious which one is the political movie.

Re: Avengers: Endgame
The women all gathering together is a decent enough example of my issue with the fan service in this film. There's no in-universe reason for only the female characters to gather around to protect Captain Marvel. It exists solely as a "girl power" moment rather than a "this makes sense in the context of the story" moment.
Infinity War had a similar moment that I was okay with since it was smaller scale. It's not all that improbable for two or three women to happen to team up to assist another woman. The moment in Infinity War can therefore work concurrently to advance the action and as fan service, while the moment in Endgame is distracting since it only exists for the latter reason.
I don't want to single out that moment though, because Endgame is full of that stuff. Purely from a storytelling perspective, there were a ton of blatantly artificial elements that only existed because of what the movie represents. The final battle in particular is just a fan-pleasing mess, imo. There's no strategy or tactics to the thing at all, heroes conveniently disappear or are nerfed at the right moments, and heaven forbid that a couple of powerful heroes actually take Thanos on at once. To me, Iron Man's sacrifice didn't really feel like it should have been necessary. Grab Doctor Strange, have him teleport Spiderman to the time machine, get out of there, problem solved.
With all that said and before I sound too whiny about it- from a certain perspective, Marvel has absolutely earned this. Unlike some of the bad blood that exists in other fandoms right now, the relationship between the MCU and its fans have been pretty positive. There's nothing wrong with making the last movie in this unprecedented series as grand and as fan-pleasing as possible, and they accomplished that. I guess it just depends on what standard you want to use to judge the film.

That scene where they throw hulk down the stairs instead of letting him on the elevator, was that lifted from Fantastic Four by Fox, or did that actually come from the Avengers movie that that segment was timed in?

So are all those times where a bunch of male characters gather together also fanservice?ChiggyvonRichthofen wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 3:09 am The women all gathering together is a decent enough example of my issue with the fan service in this film. All this hate on both sides. Maybe politics really has ruined the movies.

You are ignorantly or willfully ignoring the intent behind those two examples.
