Alabama bans abortion

And yet the leftists control everything, eh? There isn't a right-wing agenda to take women back to the 1950s and beyond, huh?

Further back than the 50's. They're making it a felony, and felons can't vote.

I could not read the full article as it wanted me to make an account. But the bits I could read along with the video makes me believe this is not meant as just a state law. But an attempt to alter national law. And I am not sure I like this method of doing things.

Abortion is really, REALLY unpopular in Alabama. Among women as well as men. Balancing rights against democracy is always a tricky act.

Sort of. They clearly hope to draw a court challenge under Row v. Wade - probably because they think there's a chance that the new Supreme Court would decide to overturn that ruling.

Personally, I suspect they overestimate their chances in that arena, but that's never stopped anyone before.

I hope you are correct. Though mentioning democracy anymore makes me concerned.

I have to say that those protestors who hang around outside abortion clinics nationwide shouting abuse seem to be made up of just as many women as men. That is the uncomfortable truth that people seem reluctant to admit because the popular stereotype of this being men against women or left against right is not always true - I would more accurately say that this is religion against abortion. And religion cuts into every side of the political spectrum. Its those people who think that abortion is messing with God's will or some shit like that are the problem.

Religion is certainly a big part of the problem, but the pro-life movement is organized mobilized by the religious right, from Catholic and Evangelical sects. Some religious groups, like Judaism, actually consider abortion as a sacred right and defend it on religious grounds.

If they really wanted to stop abortions, of course, they'd support free birth control. The fact that "pro life" protesters are also opposed to birth control belies their true motives.

I don't think it really belies it because their views are known to center around abstinence effectively stopping abortions as well.

@clearspira Yeah. Some women are just as emotional (flawed or otherwise) as men on this issue, and legitimately think it's murder. I'd say they have more of a right since it is their bodies, but at the same time, "more of a right" does not equal to "they're correct." It's like what Spock said in "A Taste of Armageddon." "I do not approve. I understand." They have more right than we do, as a man can just impregnate a woman and walk away, whether from rape or consensual. That said, if they stay peaceful, it's their right to protest, to wallow in ignorance that way, without knowing the full details on when life begins (it certainly isn't weeks after getting pregnant). So those are my thoughts.

I don't believe in Abortion but I find this law ridiculos, it should be up to the person having it not the government or the church, we don't know their reasons for it so we should stay out of it.
