We know the reasons. It's a red state, full of religious conservatives, who wanna take us back to the 1950s.
Question. Does the law apply to women who travel out of state to get an abortion? Because I find it hard to believe they wouldn't ban abortion without also banning any attempts to do so elsewhere, given what kind of raging hard-on they have for women and the idea of women making choices when it comes to their own bodies.

About 40% of Americans consider abortion to be wrong, and about 4% consider contraception to be wrong. I strongly suspect a small minority of pro-life protesters are opposed to birth control.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 12:12 am Religion is certainly a big part of the problem, but the pro-life movement is organized mobilized by the religious right, from Catholic and Evangelical sects. Some religious groups, like Judaism, actually consider abortion as a sacred right and defend it on religious grounds.
If they really wanted to stop abortions, of course, they'd support free birth control. The fact that "pro life" protesters are also opposed to birth control belies their true motives.

No, Yukaphile, you do not know the reasons. You assumed the reasons, and I think you then reacted more according to your assumptions of their motivations than to what they actually did.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 3:56 pm We know the reasons. That really doesn't help in any discussion with people who might have different opinions than you do.

I don't think doctors out of state have anything to worry about. If abortion was a federal crime then they could be extradited, but the feds have no authority I believe to act on the presumption that abortion is murder -- as Georgia so does now.clearspira wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 7:08 pmHow is that enforceable? Out of state, I doubt even the person who lives in Georgia could be extradited, though once they stepped foot back within state lines then the hammer will drop.

Well, color me surprised. I guess the ones who hate contraceptives too are just the most vocal, especially when protesting outside of Planned Parenthood.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 7:20 pmAbout 40% of Americans consider abortion to be wrong, and about 4% consider contraception to be wrong. I still believe those motives align in the police makers who push this stuff.

Re: Alabama bans abortion
@Darth Wedgius Ever since abortion was legalized, there's been this huge, mostly right-wing segment of the American population who thinks it's been a mistake, even though women were getting abortions far before it was legalized. They hate it. And it's not so simple as "they're deeply concerned about the well-being of the child!" Many of them are religious, and I think they're hypocrites because God's own teachings said, let him handle it, if this kind of thing is a crime. It's the same kind of view that went into outlawing liquor. A bunch of moral religious crusaders trying to shove their views down our throats. And even if it's a minority in the Alabama government, they know it caters well to the religious right-wing. Don't treat this as anything less than a major victory for the alt right and their war on women.

BTW the quote you're responding to is saying that we don't know the reasons why someone is getting an abortion, not the reasons why red states are fighting it.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 3:56 pm We know the reasons.
